Pocket Rogues: Ultimate is a 2D top view dungeon crawler. The gameplay is simplistic with a mix of good and bad. I loved exploring the dungeons and seeing what I could find next. The battles against enemies just felt off. Even though you have a defensive button, it often feels pointless to even use. Every encounter you have with an enemy turns into a slug fest with you just exchanging attacks one after the other. When there is multiple enemies to deal with it's hard to even survive because you just can't defend yourself properly against more than 1 enemy. The RPG experience is great though. You have 3 different characters to choose from, warrior, wizard, or archer. Each character has their own playstyle and attack/defense.
The graphics give it a slight retro feel but with subtle animations. I loved the small blood splatter effects when hitting enemies. The dungeons themselves look decent and passable but could be improved. The overall feel is just way too dark, around the room your in is just complete darkness that often bleeds into the room. This takes away dark images inside the room and makes everything just bland and hard to see. The darkness takes away the details. The audio was about average with the sound effects being the most notable thing. The background music felt boring and didn't deliver that atmospheric feeling a dungeon crawler should give you.
My final thoughts are it's a decent game but could use some improvements. It's a game that only some people may enjoy and it's definitely not a must play. It does offer nice content though so it can entertain you for a long time to come.
