It's a name you probably have heard of in some point in your life. Katamari is a cult classic game that astounded the world with its bizarre bursts of innovation and craziness. It wasn't scared to break new ground rather than follow in the footsteps of other developers in the early 2000s of video game development.
The game has always been highly wholesome, cute, and fast paced as you relaxingly roll up the world around you sometimes with tight and challenging controls against a time restriction in order to impress your father the king, who accidently destroys the cosmos over and over again.
Presentation
HD Remaster
I never expected that this game would be released in HD. It's an old game, but seeing it without pixels and the granular filter from the Playstation version from 2006 feels strange. It's nice, smooth, and retains its appeal without changing much in a negative sense. It's everything you love about the series.
Katamari is what it is: a strange but lovable mix and brilliantly composed soundtracks that makes you feel all warm and comfortable, while occasionally making you question whether you're playing a horror game owing to the unexpected tone changes. But that is how Katamari is and will always be... Weird.
Gameplay
Rebuilding
Katamari are used to generate celestial bodies in the Cosmos. The size of the Katamari is more important than the number of items collected; once you've rebuilt one of the planets with a Katamari and helped one of your fans remember and believe in the Katamari Demacy again, you'll continue to progress with each objective, which is represented by various humans and animals on the planet.
Relaxing
There isn't much else to do here but sit back, relax, and enjoy the gameplay, which may be frantic and harsh with the controls at times.
Conclusion
Nostalgic
I'd forgotten how much pleasure it is to sit back, take a deep breath, and allow wholesomeness take over after all these years. Games should be enjoyable rather than overly serious to the point of frustration. Katamari shows us this with it's never ending whacky fun ideas which keep us entertained and satisfied.
My initial thoughts on this game come to a close with the caveat that, while others may disagree, that is what makes gamers unique. You don't have to share their interests or agree with them and are welcome to critic me on mine.
If you want to catch me on one of my streams or locate me on social media, you may do so at the following locations, I'm always playing something new.
