Spiritle - A Quick Game Review!

TapTap
Spiritle is a 4 players turn-based strategic battle digital board game. Honestly, I found this game to be very unique in terms of gameplay mechanics, as I had never played a game like this before. And seriously, this game caught my interest right away. This is a PVP game that you will be playing with other players in a 2V2 or 1v1v1v1 match mode. Each character has their own unique abilities and you will need to strategize every movement and skill usage to triumph the battle. This free to play board game definitely will take the ultimate test of your memory recall ability.

Spiritle has presented a lot of amazing unique characters to play with with different abilities and cool artwork. In order to excel in this game, you will need to understand each character abilities and be able to strategize a good tactical plan with your current character. I was quite happy to see that the game has given a practice content for each character where you can master them.

Looking into the gameplay, in an online match, its actually a 4 character match up with either 4 online players or 2 online players in a 1v1v1v1 or 2v2 match up settings. But in the practice match, you are just going to compete with AI in a 1v1 match up. In the game, you will need to defeat your opponent by attacking them and reducing their HP to 0. In order to be able to attack, you will need to match up 2 tiles of same type (landscape). If you are not able to match up then you will end up losing your turn without being able to attack your opponent. Every new board will present you with empty tiles, which will only reveal if a character makes a move. If all tiles are revealed then a new board will be presented to the players. Now this is the real beauty and uniqueness of this game. If you keep moving around without matching up the tiles then you will be revealing the landscape to your opponent who can take advantage of the situation to make successful attack attempt on you. I was quite thankful to the movement log on the left side fo the screen to be able to track the revealed landscapes so far in the game. But some landscapes that were revealed by the character skills were not mentioned in the log and I was forced to memorize them.
Thus, if you are good in memorizing the revealed tiles in this game then you can excel in this game. I found the game to be quite challenging as you will be matched up with other online players and you will need to formulate the best strategy to outsmart your opponent, especially in a 1v1v1v1 match up! Knowing abilities of all characters and mastering their abilities can help you a lot in the game to achieve victory.

Basically, this is a pvp game with varieties of player matchup settings. I found the 1v1v1v1 to be quite challenging as there were 4 different online players making their move. But at the same time, this game felt quite boring when other players took a long time to make their move. I was stuck for a long time before I could make my move again. Thus, I think that this game is compatible with players who are good with waiting game like chess. The game does have the timer function for the players which would skip their turn if they don't make their move. But, I think that the timer function is very slow.
Overall, this game is a great experience with its unique gameplay feature where your memory recall power will be put to its ultimate test. I highly recommend you guys to try this game out! But if you are not good with waiting, then you might find this game quite boring and frustrating as other players can take a long time  to make their next move. That said, the graphics and audio were a wonderful experience. There were no lags and crashes. Cheers!

A slow-paced but relaxing board game elevated by beautiful visuals - Spiritle Quick Review
PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Despite Spiritle being a free-to-play game, I’m going to say pass on this one. The artwork is lovely and the simple rules allow for some neat little tweaks for each character, but the pacing is so slow that I found myself getting frustrated much more than I was having fun. At its core, Spiritle is about finding matching tiles on a randomly generated gameboard while using those matches to power attacks on other players, ultimately being the last player standing. I often had to wait as three other players looked for matches, made their attacks, and fussed over their decisions, just so I could take a stab at matching a pair of tiles—only to guess incorrectly and have to wait my turn again. It’s a bit of a drag.

PvP and match-2 game put together | First Impressions - Spiritle
Spiritle features a story premise that revolves around spirits and the 4 elements: Nature, Earth, Water and Fire, and shines in its art style, featuring a charming and cartoonish paint-like aesthetic. The characters and overall visual design are appealing, however, beyond the introduction story, the lore is practically non-existent, as it is actually a competitive Match-2 game with a focus on PvP battles. The game is free to play, with only cosmetics as in-app purchases.
