I’ve played about two hours of Zombie Clash: Lastday Dual and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this no-frills little gacha battle game. Battles are quick and fun, and are about splitting attention between maneuvering the large troll around the field to avoid enemy attacks while playing cards as mana becomes available. It’s pretty simple, but I’ve enjoyed finding ways to use the new units I collect through the gacha system and upgrading the ones I like best.
Another neat aspect to Zombie Clash is that there are parallel PvP and PvE tracks. After a few rounds of head-to-head, I get to jump back over to the solo track and advance the story, such as it is. That’s where I can encounter new characters and monsters and add to my collection with new units and materials.
The simplicity of the battles is usually nice, but I can see them getting a bit stale after a while if there aren’t interesting new cards to play or upgrades for the big mutant troll. The initial trolls lumber around the battlefield pretty slowly and aren’t difficult at all to hit, so it can sometimes feel like these fights are simply a matter of who plays their cards faster and more accurately.
Still, I’ve had fun with this game—it’s a great one to pull out while I’m waiting for the microwave or just before bed.
