If you loved Niantic's previous games like Ingress & Pokemon GO, you'll surely love this. You'll love it even more if you're a fan of the Monster Hunter franchise.
I'm not much of a console gamer, but this title was one of the few that really got my attention when it was first released so when it got ported for the PC, I of course got it. Sadly, my PC days are behind me now (mainly because of age and work) but I still play using my cellphone. So, I just had to play this too. Boy am I hooked !!! I now find myself walking around our village again much like when I played both Ingress and Pokemon GO. I'm also now thinking of playing this game during bike rides so I can explore and get more materials.
The game starts off with their usual character creation and a bit of a tutorial similar to their previous titles. It's quite easy to understand if you're new to playing Niantic games. Check out the awesome graphics. I think it looks almost as detailed as Monster Hunter World.
The armor sets are pretty much the same & the rendering on the phone is fantastic. Sure I'm using a gaming phone with the highest graphic settings enabled, but trust me, the game pretty much looks the same even with lower details.
You're allowed to battle monsters on landscape mode & the game resets orientation after the battles.
You can also invite other players (up to 4) for a co-operative battle against monsters like this Diablos which we unfortunately lost to and there were four of us. Look at the detail on the dragon though, looks awesome right? Imagine if I hade remembered to play it on landscape mode hahaha
Most monsters are not that hard to battle and you can definitely take them on alone, but the Diablos was a special boss. Here's a solo battle against a Pukei-pukei. See how fairly easy it is to fight.
Here's a duo battle against an Anjanath that I was able to do on landscape mode. Notice the shaky video? I had the gyroscope enabled (switched on using the button on the upper right) while I was walking and had to stop because it was hard to fight while walking
The game also has a unique feature where your Palico can mark targets for you to hunt. You can opt to hunt them within the day. I think it's good for guys like me who have work. Just make sure you have adventure sync enabled.
One thing I would wish is for the game to provide more health potions and paintballs to players. Maybe add a bit more time as well before paintball marks expire. Now that would work really well for players like me hahaha
Overall I'm giving this all 5 stars for now and I'm looking forward to how much more the game can improve as the months progress.
BTW, add me up ๐
