Cyber Rebellion, a gacha game brought to you by Neocraft is at first a very enjoyable experience, from learning all of the unique mechanics to participating in "co-op" world bosses.
However a lot of the enjoyment quickly disappears once you're hit with the sad reality that the game is incredibly limiting. What do I mean by this?
The rewards you receive outside of big milestones and freebies are completely lackluster. Farming for this games variant of gear can also be very taxing on regular players as it is both expensive in terms of stamina where more often than not, the reward does not feel worth it (you can receive next to nothing for an attempt). You'll be struggling as a F2P to find currency to refresh stamina and do your gacha pulls. Instead you'll be playing the long game and using whatever resources you can scrounge up to evolve your units.
🦸 Character Diversity: Evolution and Banners
Evolving units is one of the biggest unique takes the game has and one of the biggest pros it holds. This system allows you to take a low rarity unit and progressively evolve it into a different version of itself (think Pokemon but with branching evolutions). However there are specific units that cannot be evolved as these come ONLY as the highest rarity and these same units are often the main focus of this games featured banners.
Featured banners in this game are complete whale bait. You'll only be offered a very limited amount of the special currency needed to pull on these banners as a F2P, the rest have to be purchased with your favourite gacha item, the credit card.
🎮 Gameplay: Co-op and Game Modes
As of right now, the game lacks engaging content but also doesn't. This basically means that there are game modes that can be fun but just miss the mark entirely. One of these game modes is the co-op boss fights you can do for "gear." However this game mode is only open on specific days and you have limited entries and the fights are very... Bland. You setup your team and your co-op partner(s) setup theirs you are then thrown into a boss fight one team at a time and it is fully automatic and not engaging at all.
Another game mode that I never had the chance to experience due to one of many bugs is the commander progression system. Commanders unlock the ability to manipulate combat/units in various ways after a certain stage in story mode, you can unlock and advance these abilities via this game mode.
One other notable game mode is that of a "secondary story mode" where you choose 1 of 4 available areas and have control of your commander, where you move around in an isometric world and complete quests with sprinkles of lore thrown in. This mode also offers small objectives/fights you can do to reduce the areas mini boss respawn timers which have a leaderboard system with other players in the area. Higher damage done = better rewards.
🎮 Gameplay: Battle System
The games battle system is a semi-auto style that makes use of a sort of "mana gauge" that is filled after one of your units makes a basic attack. Once this gauge is filled it's the players turn to pick what skills their units use. Each unit has 1 basic attack, and 2 extra skills with their fourth being their role passive. When picking what skills to use, the units ultimate can be upgraded to a better version via the energy system. The energy a unit gains can be manipulated via other units, whether this be stealing or gaining extra, the most basic way to gain energy is by basic attacking. While there's some strategy offered by combat, you'll find yourself more often just hitting auto and letting the game do it for you unless you're punching above your weight.
🐛 Critical Bugs: Oh boy...
Right now, the game is in a rather buggy state where people are experiencing soft locks in progression in both story mode and secondary story mode. There are currently no known workarounds for this and have yet to be acknowledged by the developers.
📖 Conclusion:
Cyber Rebellion offers some temporary fun with it's evolution system and game modes but it quickly becomes another login simulator as most gachas do. Give the game a try if you're looking for a bit of dopamine with gacha pulls and a new experience.
