Announced at the Game Awards 2023, Fortnite Rocket Racing is a collaboration with Epic Games’ titan battle royale and Psyonix, the developers of Rocket League. Putting Psyonix’s rocket car handling expertise to good use, Fortnite Rocket Racing combines the tight controls of super race car driving with the rocket powered boosts of Rocket League.
Fortnite Rocket Racing adds a degree of verticality by allowing its cars to fly off the ground to go where racecars shouldn’t normally be able to go. But this is Fortnite. Normal has been thrown out the window a long time ago.
Through flight and air dodges, you can avoid obstacles, seek different avenues on the racetrack, and push your car to its absolute limits. Flying is limited by a fuel gauge and has to be used sparingly because it can slow down your overall speed. And speed is always the name of the game in racing.
Combine flying and these speed boosts to leave the other 11 racers in the dust. Just watch out for the obstacles and walls so your car doesn’t turn to bits and you have to respawn behind your initial point.
Rocket Racing has over 26 playable maps, with more coming, a competitive league, unlockable progression, and is also not pay-to-win. It has its set of purchasable cosmetics, but these are surface-level only and do not give players an advantage while racing. The only thing tested is your skills behind the wheel.
