Taking place in a setting that can be best described as dark medieval East Asian fantasy, Devil Slayer: Raksasi throws players into the fray as one of seven deadly warriors (with plenty of additional warriors available through DLC), each with their own unique weapon, skills and playstyle.

The game can be unforgiving at the start, as most rogue-like should be. It is through your determination to learn, plan, and adapt that will see you prevail over your enemies. Devil Slayer gives you the proper tools to that with its intuitive combat system. The only question is whether you are up to the challenge.

The main gameplay will have you jump headfirst into a procedurally generated dungeon and push your way through it either until you reach the end or die trying. Also because the dungeons are procedurally generated, each run can be similar but never exactly the same.

Raksasi features Souls-like combat requiring you to have precise timing and awareness, rewarding these players with a visceral sense of accomplishment. Each character will have their own set of basic weapons and skills to start each run with. Button mashing is not the key to success. Learning different combos with different weapons, skills, perks, and how these interact with enemies will give you a worthwhile challenge to continue coming back to.

Another thing about this game is that it does feature a top-down camera angle, which to some players, may feel zoomed out and detract you from the combat experience. Also the gameplay may feel a bit slow, since new weapons can only be crafted through randomly generated crafting tables which sometimes can’t even be accessed if you went and wasted your keys opening every door and chest you see on the map.

Overall, for being such a cheaply priced game, Devil Slayer: Raksasi does NOT skimp in regards to content. With six chapters, tons of builds and relics, and many trials that await, you are seriously getting more bang for your buck.
