Update: If you have obtained it for free in Epic yet haven't installed/tried the game... WHY? Seriously try at least 2 levels, please!
Some games are popular because they're so good. Some are just boasted heavily by trailers and ads. And some are just unfortunate enough to be just outside the spotlight. Super Crazy Rhythm Castle is definitely belong to the last category.
This game is definitely on the podium of best rhythm game I've ever played. Because I'm a kind of guy who likes rhythm that's just not only rhythm. This game, like the name literally said, crazy enough to bring story, hidden detail, surprises, puzzle, music, and dynamic Gameplay on every level of the game!
The game is colorful, beautiful, and intricately made on every level. The graphics just keep changing anywhere you're on and whatever the level is. So you definitely know which one it is the moment a picture of the map shows up (which may or may not be important for completing the true ending of the game, ehem... Trying not to spoil).
The characters have very distinct style into it..and while the entire game is crazy dynamic, somewhat they all go along the kinda one family of style. They are detailed, the background is pleasing, the center keeps changing, lighting and shadows are well placed for "cinematic" appearance. Yeah a top-down can be very cinematic too.
Although I tested both PC and Switch release of this game. The only downside when playing switch on handheld mode is that you won't get shadows while playing. It's not much of a difference but it is noticable. Also 120fps+ you only get on PC and high end console definitely give an upper hand above switch that plays at 30 or 60 fps.
Oh also sound graphics is important here. Because the sound mixing IS SOO GOOD it has depth and surround I've never experienced even on any rhythm game before. Most just blast music with simple sfx beats, but this game is really not it. 3D environment is so strong you can even map the room you're in just by hearing the high quality reverb.
This game is Absolute fun! There is always something new on every level. Yes at the first 2 levels (including tutorial) it's all doesn't make sense. Like why do I have to learn how to shoot cannon on a rhythm game? Or why do running tiles of notes going on every level? Somewhat they weren't clear at first, and "The King" interruptions doesn't help me understand. But apparently this is by design. This teaches me that no matter what, the rhythm is the key, and everything else is what changes every level.
So as you progress you unlock more helpful items. In what I think a very respectable pace. This keeps us (I played duo mostly) entertained for the entire game. New mechanics allow you to beat levels at higher score when replaying them, which btw the game rewards you special content for perfectionist.
If you play solo, don't feel missed out! There is helpful "Hand Dog" guy that acts as second player... Sometimes... Sometimes you just have to beat the level solo. But fret not! The dev meticulously make every level playable and beatable at same difficulty no matter playing solo or duo or more. I think the design is very genius. I find a lot of people online saying "this impossible solo... That impossible duo... Etc" when in reality in the comment section people just point out something they missed.
As playing the game, nearing end game, you will meet with new faces who can join your party. And this is so cool to play the levels again using new characters. Because they have charms, or bells, or iconic "ehem" that might enlightened your journey on new perspective.
But, what's crazy then? Is this just rhythm after all? Well yeah, but no, by a far century this game is way more than just that. You can play puzzle, where the progress is both by ingame clues and playing the notes. You can manufacture stuff. By pressing button to select ingredients and playing notes to make it. Or you can just play and other entities might disrupt you. You can play smart, and earn more stars, so you Unlock more content. Of you can just... Do whatever barely passed and enjoy the regular ending.
Oh yes, getting an ending actually only grant you 50%. There is entirely new world and puzzles you encounter, playing levels the different way, or achieving some hidden destiny pointed by simple images will change stuff! Big enough it will amaze you.
While the game itself might be around 10-15 hours to get the first ending, it might get much more to perfect it and get all the experience. It's up to you, the dev make sure if you like the game and playing it more they will reward you with more content.
Also, you can play couch (super recommended), or play online together (but please have very good internet connection). Just so you know this game intended to be multiplayer first. A very good coop one
So, this game was a blast. Even beating the game almost 100% by playing duo on my laptop isn't enough for me. I wanna replay it on switch. And just that, no one played it. It's hard searching for guide online. This game made by Konami guys, they worked hard on this and really delivers. I feel so sad I didn't know this game exist sooner!
I love the game's pace. I was surprised by the mechanics.
