Super Phantom Cat is a 2D platformer game initially released for iOS and Android in 2016 and developed by Veewo Games, the same studio behind Neon Abyss.
❖ Controls/gameplay: 4/5
The controls are simple and intuitive, and the level are designed in a way that invites the player to explore every corner of it as they're filled with unusual mechanics and secrets.
The game presents you with several worlds to beat, each one having a small set of levels and different environments. The levels aren't difficult to complete, but they can become a challenge for completionists.
❖ Graphics: 5/5
The simple cartoonish graphics and the vibrant color palettes are very pleasant to the eyes. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate well on modern phone screens since this is an old game that was abandoned years ago, thus stuck with the resolution standards for phones of the time and the propensity to have visual glitches.
❖ Customization: 2/5
There's a decently sized array of cute and unique characters to choose from, but it might take a while to unlock them since they can only be unlocked one at a time in a fixed order. This tedious system is replaced with a more efficient one in the second game.
❖ Conclusion: 3/5
This is a great game whose art and gameplay holds up as good as it did when it released, but it's also an incredibly outdated game that might not be compatible with most phones nowadays.
I suggest playing the sequel, which brings updates for every aspect of it and adds more content (However, it has its share of cons).
... Did I mention the Hello Kitty collab?
Criticism of this review would be greatly appreciated.
