Soul Knight is a 2017 top-down roguelike/RPG developed by Chillyroom that has gotten overwhelmingly positive reception throughout the years.
❖ Gameplay:
The gameplay mostly consists of fighting through procedurally generated dungeons using a wide and unique array of powers and weapons.
You can choose anything from swords, daggers, bows, staffs, all kinds of firearms, meat, a laser-shooting fish, a bamboo pole, etc. It's fun to experiment with the myriad of tools and mechanics the game has to offer.
The events can be pretty creative. You could get something similar to regular runs with new mechanics, or you could get something completely different from the core game. No matter what it is, they're always fun to play.
❖ Controls:
The controls are smooth, and at no point do they feel weird or unresponsive. It won't take a newbie more than five seconds to get accustomed to them.
❖ Presentation:
The pixelated visuals are seamlessly done. Everything has the right amount of detail, and the characters are cute and well designed.
There are plenty of cute characters to choose from (Including what seems to be a walking water cooler), all of them with their own sets of useful skills and themed skins.
❖ Conclusion: 4/5
The game is seriously fun. I'd recommend it to anyone regardless of whether they're used to playing action games, as anybody can quickly get the hang of it.
Good luck beating it though.
