Nintendo DMCA takedown wipes over 8,500 Yuzu emulator copies 🥶
1K View2024-05-04After slamming the Switch emulator Yuzu with a $2.4 million lawsuit that caused it to shut down, Nintendo is now taking aim at its copies. The gaming giant submitted a total of 8,535 takedown notices for Yuzu emulator forks on GitHub, as spotted earlier by TorrentFreak and PCGamer.
When news of Nintendo’s lawsuit against Yuzu first broke, users began preserving the emulator’s code by making copies and uploading it to places like GitHub. But now, a copy of Nintendo’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown request says GitHub took action “against the entire network of 8,535 repositories, inclusive of the parent repository.”
The request says the repositories in question “offer and provide access to the yuzu emulator or code,” adding that “yuzu illegally circumvents Nintendo’s technological protection measures and runs illegal copies of Nintendo Switch games.” Nintendo argues that Yuzu uses “unauthorized” versions of the cryptographic keys required to run Switch games.
Nintendo’s legal team has been very busy over the past few months. In addition to taking down Yuzu and its clones, the company has also targeted the physics sandbox game Garry’s Mod. The game’s developer confirmed in April that it received takedown notices from Nintendo, resulting in the removal of 20 years’ worth of Nintendo-related add-ons.

The two artists, Hualu, and Crab-Peng, claim that their artwork published on social media Weibo was used extensively in the game without their consent or compensation. They have since filed a complaint with the relevant authorities and are seeking legal action against the game's developers. However, the game's development company has not disclosed its registration details, leaving the two artists to seek help from the publsihing platform TapTap to resolve the issue.

Nintendo is just a shi*ty company. Theyre greedy as f*ck! They only think of themselves instead of their players. Thats one of the reasons why I stopped buying their games. Companies like that dont deserve my money nor my respect. Theres still Ryujinx, so Ill use that emulator if I wanna play a NSwitch game. Still, I wonder what happened to them? They werent like that before.... 🙁

You know, if they just don't want to be greedy, they could release their own emulator for the players who don't own a console to play, but they always think of a method to milk gamers of money. Can't blame them though; it was business.

it's a running business they are making games to make money , but they had an open source solution they should have take the chance to buy them support the whole project and then sell games via that environment they have created, it would have been amazing
