Out of the loop? Let's catch you up.
Helldivers 2 has been the best game released in recent years in terms of cost, content, and challenge both alone and with friends, but it has found itself in some dangerous waters. ArrowHead Studio has been lying to their entire audience since the game's debut with the very first message that appears when you boot it up, the OPTIONAL connecting of your Steam account to your PlayStation account.
This may not seem like a big deal but the primary issue here is that there are a lot of people who despise Sony and loathe having to go out and register / setup accounts for something they'll never use because of how many data breaches they go through yearly, so when it was changed to needing to be mandatory without any transparency from the beginning you better believe people will be upset. Before you state how it's not a big deal, remember that PSN is not available worldwide, including all EU nations. Sony prohibits anyone who uses incorrect credentials.
The game has since been removed from accounts if they no longer have access to it, and Steam has granted full refunds to everyone affected, but it doesn't change the fact that many users will never be able to play the game again because of this.
It should be noted that the main reason this was even pushed forward was to make it a mandatory feature to more precisely ban their player base from their service.
The Community manager has since deleted their Twitter account entirely.
We get it. They are not fully in control and their trying; but they sold out to Sony and are compelled to do what they tell them to do, but the way they are treating the community through their communication has everyone upset. So, as they previously stated, if you do not have the patience or time to set up a PSN account, leave a negative review and make your opinion known and not to bother them.
One user has stood up and spoken with a law firm about filing a class A lawsuit.
Following this, the community as a whole has taken up arms in order to get this reversed for themselves and the community of players who have lost access to the game as a whole by bombarding the game on Steam, which has gone from Mostly Positive to Overwhelming Negative in just three days while also abstaining from playing it entirely, which honestly isn't that hard to do.
Normally, Steam has a system in place to prevent controversial reviews like this from appearing, but this is an issue because it has taken the game away from many people in certain parts of the world who have paid for it, and it has also changed their policy, which was originally intended to be optional, so there are valid concerns that should be taken into consideration
Update: Democracy has prevailed!
