NetEase invested a team of 600 people, 6 years and 1 billion yuan in the Open World RPG game based on Jin Yong's IP “Condor Heroes”.
Despite high expectations in China, Condor Heroes underperformed with revenue of 27.45 million yuan and a rating of 2.5 on the iOS App Store after 25 days of release.
Many players criticized the game for having a high degree of immersion in the plot and little multiplayer content, which is ironic and contrasts how the Western and Chinese markets differ, since in the West many players ask for exactly what NetEase is giving, history immersive and focus on the plot.
