A game inspired by Splatoon shouldn’t be this bland and boring

SHOULD I PLAY COLORBANG? It might be worth revisiting on full release, but definitely skip it for now. ColorBang offers nothing more than the opportunity to play a simplified, top-down version of Splatoon on mobile. While the game feels naturally fun to play for a short time, it doesn’t deliver anything unique, creative, or worthwhile enough to keep me interested in the long run. TIME PLAYED I played

The deepest, most stylish mobile action game - Phantom Blade: Executioners Quick First Impressions

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Absolutely play it. Phantom Blade: Executioners is a flashy action game that mixes the best elements of classic side-scrolling 2D brawlers—think Streets of Rage and Golden Axe—with a deep yet approachable combo-based fighting system that feels like something out of Devil May Cry. The result is a brilliantly fun, bite-sized title that’s worth some time even if you’re tired of gacha games.

A swashbuckling spin on Crash Bandicoot - Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara Quick Review

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Play it. Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara is a swashbuckling, sea-sailing 3D platform game that features vibrant visuals, catchy tunes, and an adventure filled with mystery and action that’s worth embarking on, especially if you like games like Super Mario Bros. or Crash Bandicoot. TIME PLAYED I played Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara for three hours. I managed to complete over a dozen levels, as well as a few friendly races. Each level took anywhere between two to eleven minutes to complete, and usually got much harder the farther I got into the game. I’ve unlocked about half of the map already and visited over ten islands, where I’ve met a handful of the adorable characters.

Hades plus gacha is a surprisingly solid combination

Both the art style and moment-to-moment combat of Myth: Gods of Asgard are very clearly inspired by one obvious source: Hades, the beloved roguelite action-RPG from Supergiant Games. That comparison may set Myth up for some unfortunate disappointment, however. It's not that Myth is bad; it's just not easy to live up to one of the best games of the last decade! Once I got past that initial stumbling block, though, I was pretty quickly won over by what Myth: Gods of Asgard offers. I played through stories plucked from Norse mythology and unlocked four playable characters—Brynhild, Siegfrid, Thor, and Ullr. Each of these heroes has a unique main weapon along with their own special abilities and general feel to combat. But they all feel really great, and in general the game does a solid job of emulating the fast-paced, responsive battles of Hades.

Warhaven is a frustrating free-to-play take on For Honor’s medieval PvP

SHOULD I PLAY WARHAVEN? Skip it for now until we see how the full release turns out. Warhaven’s medieval-fantasy PVP reminded me a lot of For Honor—a game I like a fair bit—but what’s here so far is less complex and more frustrating. The poor combat system and lack of dedicated servers in some regions are major issues that need shaping up before I’d want to continue playing Warhaven. TIME PLAYED I played

Can you make it to floor 100? This dungeon crawler is adorable, but it still packs a punch

SHOULD YOU PLAY IGNISTONE? If you’re looking for a simple-yet-addictive dungeon crawler, Ignistone is the game for you! This roguelike has a cutesy art style, but it doesn’t hold back when it comes to challenge. I had to fight my way through a hundred floors to get to the end of Ignistone, and things only got harder after the credits had rolled. The streamlined gameplay and playful storyline made this game a blast.

A super cute offline game about just jumping off from one animal to another to win the game. I can't believe how cute and adorable this game is. The cute pixel art of different animals and the visual effects make this game super adorable and worth playing. It's an offline game where you select a character (of any animal), and all you have to do is attack other players by jumping on them and reaching for a high score. Very simple game, but the controls take time to adjust. I am still getting used to this game, but I enjoy playing this one a lot. Mostly I loved the attractive animation style, background music, and pixel art. Sometimes in the game it gets confusing to find your character and manage the controls, but with time you get used to it. There are a lot of cute animals to unlock and some attack boosters that appear in the game to make it more enticing. As an offline game, I completely loved this one because I felt something new and creative!!! Give it a shot; you'll enjoy playing it.

This mobile hack-and-slash RPG has plenty of demon-slaying, but it's no Diablo

SHOULD I PLAY BLADE X: ODYSSEY OF HEROES? Skip it, unless you really enjoy hack-and-slash games. Blade X: Odyssey of Heroes offers an action-packed hack-and-slash combat experience with RPG elements, like skill enhancements, gear upgrades, and character leveling. Unfortunately, it’s dragged down by repetitive gameplay, a lack of rewards, and a bunch of annoying microtransaction and ad promotions. TIME PLAYED

What if Slay the Spire was a tower defense game? CD 2: Trap Master is a super addictive deck-builder

SHOULD I PLAY CD 2: TRAP MASTER? Do you like setting traps? Are you a fan of roguelike deck-builders and tower defense games? If any of that sounds appealing to you, check out CD 2: Trap Master. There’s something incredibly satisfying about setting up combos and watching enemies march to their doom one by one. The game could use a little tweaking, but it’s an absolute blast to play. A simple yet insanely fun action-adventure shoot 'em up game that reminds me of Cuphead

Towaga: Among Shadows is a casual but insanely fun action-adventure game with beautiful 2D visuals and smooth animation that explores a world of darkness from the perspective of a light-bringing warrior. After an hour of monster slaying, I’ve come to enjoy Towaga: Among Shadows’s simple shoot ‘em up gameplay and storyline. In Towaga: Among Shadows, I embarked on an adventure to save a stunning Aztec-themed world from evil monsters seeking to ravage everything in its sight. I had to battle against various creatures using abilities and a beam of light that I could redirect willingly with the swoosh and hold of a finger. I’ve found the story mode more enjoyable so far, despite only dabbling in the game’s survival mode, but I’ve yet to play multiplayer.

Clean houses and move furniture in this fun co-op game - Moving Out 2 Quick Review

SHOULD I PLAY MOVING OUT 2? Play it with your friends, but avoid it if you’re looking for a single-player experience. Moving Out 2 is a charming, cartoony game about a moving company where I played as an employee tasked with helping people move furniture and boxes out of or into their homes. It’s similar to Overcooked wherein gameplay is heavily co-op focused and most of the fun happens when you’re in the right company. The flip side of that coin is that it’s a really challenging and frustrating time when playing alone.

Ten-minute dungeons?!? Dimension Hunter is a bullet hell roguelite that won't waste your time

SHOULD I PLAY DIMENSION HUNTER? Check this one out if you’re into roguelites and like bullet hell mechanics, but skip it if you’re not that into the genre. Dimension Hunter is a fun and fast-paced dungeon crawler that’s easy to pick up and play, but aside from its awesome pixel art, it doesn’t do anything that makes it stand out from the crowd. It might not be the most original game, but there are plenty of cool power-ups and weird monsters to fight, so die-hard roguelite fans should definitely give it a try.

Roguelike meets beat ’em up in a retro brawler - Double Dragon Gaiden Quick Review

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Play it if you’re a fan of old-school beat ’em ups or are looking for a couch co-op game. Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons delivers all the excitement of a retro arcade game, but it also finds ways to mix up that classic formula. You can tackle levels in any order, earn power-ups for your fighters, and even collect tokens you can use to continue your game after an untimely defeat. There was always something for me to unlock, like new characters or music tracks, and no two runs felt exactly alike, which made the game tough to put down. It’s an incredibly addictive single-player game, and I’m willing to bet it’s even more fun when you have some friends to join you.

This messy action RPG feels like the first draft of a better game

SHOULD I PLAY FARSIDERS? With plenty of better action RPGs around right now, it’s probably safe to skip Farsiders. While the artwork and soundtrack are delightful, the story is a jumbled mess of ideas and the English translation is poorer still. There are some neat ideas for combat, but the dull AI and sludgy pace keep it from ever feeling exciting. TIME PLAYED I played Farsiders for two and a half hours. I traveled through a portal from a violent cyberpunk city to a fantastical, alien version of Camelot, where King Arthur and his knight Lancelot sent me to retrieve moonstone fragments that were meant to be attached to Excalibur. I recovered the first fragment after fighting my way through a treehouse casino deep in a swamp, and I’ve gained several new skills and spells as I leveled up my character, Camilla.
