At first glance it may look like a simple indie roguelike, but the longer you play, the more you realize how many systems, secrets, and emergent mechanics are layered underneath. What makes this game special is how items and weapons interact in unexpected ways.

You have to use all the 3D pieces available to erect buildings: houses, bridges, monuments, etc. based on different architectural styles from all over the world. The protagonist of the game this time is the little Hikaru who, after having inadvertently "shot" the super-intelligence helmets out of the laboratory, finds himself having to deal with an army of primates ready to conquer the world. At the head of the revolt we find the white monkey Specter, this time intent on stealing the Lethargy Laser from the Professor, essential for easily putting humans to sleep and thus having control over the entire world.

The Legend of Tianding: This is a 2D side-scroller beat 'em up game with some RPG elements where you play as the historical figure Liao Tianding. This game unexpectedly turned out to be an indie masterpiece for me. With its engaging storytelling, charming protagonist, excellent portrayal of 1900's Taiwan, beautiful art style, unique and satisfying gameplay mechanics, interesting boss fights, great soundtracks, and multiple endings, the game excelled in many aspects. However, it had some unfair platforming sections and repetitive combat towards the end. Overall, the game's strengths outweighed its weaknesses, making it a remarkable experience that left me craving for more historically-inspired games of similar caliber.

You start to think about games like Undertale, DeltaRune, EverHood, A Short Hike, StarDew Valley and so many more that are all created by a solo or duo developer, yet they provide you with hours of pure unfiltered amusement and delight, as well as sometimes a very long emotional rollercoaster of sensations that will stop you dead in your tracks. Afterplace is right in the center such masterfully crafted works.

The protagonist is Pepper, a young and determined treasure hunter who is shipwrecked on a mysterious island after losing all her loot. On the island, a band of bizarre enemies called Narlings steals what remains, including her precious mechanical drill called the "Grinder." Determined to get back what's hers, Pepper manages to recover the Grinder and begins her adventure through increasingly varied and dangerous environments. From sandy beaches to underground caves, industrial structures, and surreal landscapes, Pepper faces hordes of enemies and gigantic bosses, each with unique mechanics. The drill allows Pepper to dig into the ground and "swim" underground, launch himself into the air at high speed, attach himself to mechanisms and activate platforms, and create incredibly fluid movement combos. The control system is surprisingly responsive, especially on high-performance devices. The gameplay is based on rhythm and precision: the more you master the drill, the more spectacular the experience becomes. The enemies are varied and well-characterized. Some require timing, others strategy. The boss fights are one of the game's highlights: dynamic, intense, and often divided into multiple phases, the levels are full of secrets, alternative routes, and collectibles. In short, it encourages replayability thanks to timed challenges, hidden object collection, and routes optimized for speedrunning. Its detailed pixel art style and fluid animations make the title visually captivating. The music is energetic and perfectly complements the frenetic action.  It's not a casual game: it requires precision, reflexes, and a little practice, but it's incredibly rewarding.
