At Summer Game Fest 2023, Square Enix surprised us by announcing a colorful four-versus-four shooter called Foamstars. The game is all about spraying down enemies and the arena with blue, pink, purple, and green bubbles. It drew immediate comparisons to Nintendo's Splatoon series, but it's much more than just a clone. In fact, it was one of our favorite games that we got to try out at Summer Game Fest!

The first thing that came to mind when I loaded into Somnolent for the first time was the PlayStation 2. This game's chunky, low-detail models reminded me perfectly of games from that era. And it's an era I loved, so I was immediately in the mood to fall for Somnolent! My first hour or so was promising too. This is a full 3D action-RPG that honestly looks and feels pretty great. Even using touch controls, I was able to get into a good flow of combat and didn't have too many problems with the game's platforming challenges. I started leveling up quickly, and the game throws loot at the player like crazy, which is a blast.

Very few RPGs manage to capture the sense of whimsy and adventure of Super Mario RPG, so when one comes along, we take notice. That's why we couldn't look away when we saw the absolutely adorable and fun-looking Born of Bread. This RPG puts players into the shoes of Loaf, a "flour golem" who must journey the world and make new friends while solving a perplexing mystery. Like Super Mario RPG, Born of Bread's combat system is technically turn-based, but different moves allow players to do extra damage by completing timing-based challenges. So it requires a little more attention than the average turn-based RPG, where you might just tap "attack" over and over.

It’s like they waited for me to finish before they dropped the goods. Let's break down what’s new! So, according to the Google Play update notes, here’s what they rolled out: New Features: Ranked Game Mode. Visual Style Color Presets – Because who doesn’t love a fresh coat of paint? New Home Screen – Out with the old, in with the new! Some New Content: Fixes and Improvements: Improved Cosmium VFX. Improved Aim Assist. Increased Vehicle Count. Increased Backpack Capacity (Med Kits and Med Packs) – Now you can carry everything, including the kitchen sink. Increased Chappal Damage Multiple Bug Fixes – Because bugs should stay in the code, not on the battlefield. Seems like they really listened and fixed a ton of stuff. Alright, let’s jump in and see all the goodies we got this time! "Alright, let’s review this update!" First off, New Content! Everything you see on the screen in this update? Yup, it’s all paid. So happy New Year to all the paid players get ready to lighten those wallets! According to their announcements, they’re “maintaining the servers” well, let’s just say that right now, it's more like they're “maintaining the lag.” Oh, and I noticed a tiny improvement in controls. I think? Maybe it’s the lag messing with my head, but it felt like there was a small fix there. Just don’t ask me to pinpoint what exactly. Now If you don’t already have this game installed, do yourself a favor and save your data. Honestly, it's not worth it right now. And to the devs, here’s a friendly suggestion: maybe remove the “Made in India” tag from the game until it’s actually ready. It’s painful to see the potential of Indian game development get buried by rushed releases. It’s not that India can’t make great games—just look at Scarfall 2.0. Yep, the servers are just offline! But why, you ask? Well, I checked the official Discord, and it turns out the servers are down for maintenance. Now, it's a bit odd since the game launched just 15 days ago, but hey, that could mean we’re in for some upgrades! Maybe this maintenance is for an upcoming update? So what could be in this mysterious update? Hopefully, it’s a bug fix and improvement update. Picture this: Indus with better textures and smoother character movements. Right now, even on the highest graphics settings, it’s... well, not quite hitting the mark. And let’s talk controls—currently, it feels like trying to steer a shopping cart with a wobbly wheel. Improving the controls alone could make the game way more playable. Or maybe, they’re working on stabilizing the servers for better ping and that glorious 60 FPS. Because who doesn’t want to play without surprise lag spikes? Now, I know what you're thinking: "Why aren’t you showing Indus gameplay in the background?" SHOULD I PLAY FORT SOLIS? Fort Solis is absolutely worth playing, as long as you know the type of game you’re getting into. And that is, to be clear, a one hundred percent narrative game. Virtually all of the “gameplay” in Fort Solis is made up of walking around the titular creepy abandoned base on Mars, with a small handful of very simple puzzles and quick time events. That said, if you’re down for a creepy, suspenseful story, this one will get under your skin in all the best ways.
