With this game, I go on a special journey through a dark fairytale world inside the nobleman's mind. I have to solve puzzles, jump between platforms, and use mirrors to explore. The game tells a really interesting story and has cool ways of playing that make me think about things.

Ugly is a macabre puzzle platformer set in a twisted fairy tale world. Its beautiful art style is evocative of the innocence that exudes from the drawings of children warped by the scars of trauma and abandonment. You play as the unnamed prince who sticks out like a sore thumb. He is our titular “ugly” character with his harsh eyes and bulbous nose, a stark contrast to the sophistication and hand-crafted beauty that surrounds him in the vast castle. Perhaps that is why the story starts with him waking up locked away in the basement, hidden away from the world.

Its dark and twisted fairytale takes me on a journey of self-reflection~ The game is a reflective puzzle platformer that unravels the dark secrets hidden throughout a tormented nobleman's mind. With its innovative mirror mechanic, I use this unique feature to solve puzzles and face towering bosses, adding an element of challenge and intrigue to the gameplay. The game's desolated recesses and its blend of a kid-friendly art style with adult psychological horror create a captivating and immersive experience for me.

Despite the name, Ugly is actually a Beautiful 2D game with excellent art design characterized by moody cartoonish aesthetics and authentic looking classic-style animations. Gameplay in Ugly revolves around a puzzle-centric approach with 2D platforming elements, wherein players utilizze the innovative 'mirror' mechanic to navigate through challenging puzzle rooms. One button summons the mirror, which in turn summons your mirror image as well. You can summon the mirror horizontally or vertically, which will affect how your mirror image moves.

Ugly is a fantastic puzzle platformer that punches far above its weight in the mobile gaming space. Combining gorgeously illustrated artwork and environments with a hauntingly somber and melancholic ambience and soundtrack, Ugly honestly deserves to be sued for false advertising. This game is damn beautiful. But a game’s visuals can only take it so far. Luckily, Ugly is also held up by extremely competent platforming and deceptively challenging puzzles.
