Chinese Companies Clarify Gaming Time for Minors Ahead of Holidays.

Johnson Ge On July 11th, Tencent Games released a summer vacation calendar on its websites. The calendar contains July and August, it also marks all the Fridays and weekends in green. It means that they will provide game service to minor players from 8-9 pm on the green-marked dates. A picture of the calendar shows the underage players only have 3 hours per week on video games. China has enacted the strictest video game age restriction mandate, allowing underage players to play video games for only three hours per week. And the three hours are limited to 8-9 pm each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

In the Environmental Social and Governance Report 2021, Tencent mentioned its efforts to reduce the time that the minors spend on playing games and the 12.4% turnover rate, among other issues. In detail, as also shown in its financial report, the minors’ gaming time has decreased by 88% year on year in the China domestic market in Q4 of 2021, to 0.9% of the total players’ gaming time. The spending on games by minors dropped by 73% in the China Domestic market year on year, to 1.5% of the total expenditures.

Chinese game giant Tencent today released its financial report for Q4 and the full year of 2021. It reported an 6% increase of games revenue for the domestic market, with 128.8 billion CNY (~20.22 Billion USD), while its revenue for the overseas markets increased by 31%, to 45.5 billion CNY. The China domestic market’s games revenue growth was driven by the impressive performance of Honor of Kings, Call of Duty Mobile, and Moonlight Blade Mobile, but restricted by the limited revenue of Dungeon and Fighters, and Game for Peace.
