It seems like Call of Duty keeps rolling out new content these days, but I’m certainly not complaining! What better way to kill time as we wait for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II than by vanquishing the undead in the newly released Call of Duty Mobile Season 9 patch, which brings back the ever-popular Zombies mode to the game? Just in time for Halloween!
For those that have only recently answered the call and may not be familiar with this popular game mode, the objective in Call of Duty’s Zombies mode is to survive round after round of invading zombies, each of which is more challenging than the last. It’s not just regular zombies either; as matches progress, you’ll fight zombie dogs, zombie bosses, zombies that are on fire, zombies that belch up piles of toxic goo, and more. Of course, in order to properly take on these evil hordes, you’ll also gather an arsenal of zombie-busting weaponry.
This was the first time I've delved into Zombies mode on my iPhone 13, and I’ve got to say, as the rounds increased, the change in the difficulty really became noticeable. I encountered zombies made of fire and electricity, and I was looking for every special power-up to add damage to my weapons and get insta-kills. Even with the upgraded armor, it was pretty difficult. Some of this could probably use a bit of tweaking, as it seemed like I was emptying clip after clip on these things to no avail. The intensity also definitely made me wish I had invested in a good controller before playing on my mobile device.
With that said...Zombies mode is fun as hell!
Starting with the classic Zombies mode from the multiplayer screen, I downloaded the Shi No Numa map and was dropped right into the action. There’s also a pretty dope Super Attack of the Undead mode, where one player will be chosen at the start of the match to join the zombies and attempt to infect everybody else. The rest of the survivors have to battle this player along with the AI-controlled enemies.
A few new maps are available for download, like “Haunted Hacienda,” the Halloween-themed version of the “Hacienda” map, which is filled with jack-o’-lanterns, cobwebs, and other cool creepy makeovers for the classic map. And what Call of Duty would be complete without the weapon unlockables like the new Krig 6 assault rifle, C4 explosives, and a crossbow, so you can make like Daryl from The Walking Dead. Not to mention, the ongoing Haunted Voyage event should keep players coming back for more, as they’re able to earn special Halloween coins that unlock exclusive rewards.
This update to Call of Duty Mobile was definitely a nice treat to keep me satiated before the release of Modern Warfare II. The thing is, now that I’ve gotten an itch for zombies, I want them to keep the zombies coming. I get that it’s a seasonal release, but having a Zombies mode kicks Call of Duty Mobile up a notch. We’ve had access to the Undead Siege mode before, but why not keep it as a permanent game mode? Refine it and keep it running. For now, I’m going to make the most out of blasting the digital hordes of undead while we still have access to them. See you on the battleground.
