If you’re looking for an idle game to pass your time, Idle James: Hyper Hero isn’t worth considering. It’s a terrible idle game with a massive progression wall that only money can really topple down. Hyper Hero’s gameplay lacks creativity, and its visuals feel equally subpar. After spending over an hour playing the game, I’m left wishing that I’d never tried it in the first place.
Yes, it’s that bad. The game initially sets off on a strong foot and seems pretty enjoyable, with gameplay requiring me to slash away monsters and level up. It’s only after I played for around thirty to forty minutes did it start to slow down and become dreadfully boring. Of course, progression walls are common in idle games, but Hyper Hero’s was humungous. It took me thirty minutes to reach level seven alone and then forty to only hit level eight. It then became harder to progress and eventually reached a point where it felt impossible to level up in Hyper Hero. The game also started glitching out and freezing the longer I played, which felt frustrating to experience.
The only realistic way to progress through the game is by purchasing microtransactions that boosted me. Well, that’s if I didn’t want to frustratingly throw my phone at the wall playing the game really slowly. Now, I don’t mind spending money on idle games. I believe if it’s for a good reason and feels like it's worth it, then it’s alright. But I can’t stand it when idle games are made so that I’m persuaded to pay cash to enjoy them. Hyper Hero is sadly one of those games.
Even at its core, Hyper Hero’s gameplay is basic and okay. Its visual design is pretty outdated and tacky, and the interface feels hard to navigate. I definitely won’t continue playing Hyper Hero any longer, and I recommend that no one should, either. There are hundreds of better idle games out there that are worth my time, but Hyper Hero isn’t one of them.
