Aether Gazer is a well-polished gacha-styled action-rpg that you've probably seen before

If you couldn’t get enough of Honkai: Star Rail and found yourself thinking? Is there something similar that’s worth playing? Aether Gazer could be the game for you. Like Honkai: Star Rail and Wuthering Waves, it’s an Action RPG with gacha elements. You can expect to level and collect different characters, get daily rewards for playing, and get new combat abilities that show off the game’s dynamic visuals. But if you’re looking for something truly unique, you’ll be left wanting. Nothing here hasn’t been done in the genre and the overall sci-fi narrative that initially showed promise was generic and confusing. However, if you don’t care about any of that and are just looking for something that looks great and allows you to hack-n-slash and collect heroes, you won’t be disappointed.
I was initially confused because there’s a lot to unpack here. Humans are extinct, and the survivors live in a virtual world modeled after the original Earth. A safe-check system named Aether Gazer was created to ensure humanity is protected in this virtual world, and I played the role of the administrator to make sure a disaster like that never happens again. At least, I think that’s the story because there was no option to go back and repeat the script, which would’ve been very helpful. That being said, I soon found myself zoning out of the plot just to get to the fantastic combat Aether Gezer offers.
Combat is the real gem in Aether Gezer. The fight animations and ability to unlock ultimate skill chains which link character abilities were excellent, and I liked that I could openly run around the battlefield. The controls were simple to grasp as well. With just a few taps, I could alternate between using my special ability or an ability from someone in my party.
Unfortunately, I could only choose the leader of my party and play as that person. At the same time, the computer-controlled AI took control of the other members. The AI was pretty clever and were great companions adding to the overall fun and fast-paced nature of the battles. That being said, don’t let that confuse you with good characters! I didn’t find any of the heroes really stood out. However, the voice acting did help to really bring out individual personalities against otherwise bland characters.
If it seems like I’m going hard on Aether Gazer, I’m not. There’s a lot of fun to be had here, especially if you’re new to the genre. Still, this one didn’t distinguish itself in any category other than visuals and combat. That’ll certainly be enough for some folks, and if you don’t mind, I recommend giving this one a try.
AG is not at all like SR and Wuthering Waves.
Aether Gazer is more like PGR and HI3rd.
And from what Ive seen on twitch, WW is pretty much a mix of GI and ToF. 😭
This felt more like 3rd Impact to me than Star Rail. I played for like two days, but everyone is copying this style of game, so I got rid of it. Story and characters weren't interesting enough to hold my attention. Fun gameplay though.
