An Indepth System Shock Remake Review

Developer: Nightdive Studios Publisher: Prime Matter Released: May 30th, 2023 Price: $40 USD What comes to mind when you hear the words Remake or Remaster? I imagine a game that has been repurposed and polished to meet the gaming standards of this generation, most notably a game that was heavily adored, with small if not zero alterations from the original outside of graphical enhancements. Unfortunately, many developers these days believe that it's all about the visual flair, while also disregarding everything the first games stood for and did well with. Finally it seems like some are going about it in the right direction!

It’s probably impossible to overstate the importance of the original System Shock, which debuted on PC way back in 1994. While Doom had reshaped expectations of what a 3D game world could be a year earlier, System Shock’s dark, creepy space station hallways charted a course that we’re still following today. What we now know as the survival horror and immersive sim genres simply wouldn’t exist as we know them without this weird, niche game from Looking Glass Studios.

This is for all you need to know the original game that has been rebuilt in the image that it and all games deserve to be in. Survival Horror, combined with a cyberpunk atmosphere and excellent exploration and discovery will keep you entertained no matter how many times you run in circles.
