It is said that the Allfather Odin's third son was birthed by a Vanir, a unique race that specialized in manipulating elemental power.
Inheriting his mother's legacy, his「Light Scalemail」 was awakened,causing his skin to emanate a dazzling glow all day long. This often led mortals to mistake him for an incarnation of the sun itself.
To prevent his gleaming body from hurting the eyes of others, he had to shroud himself in a black cloak and cover his hands in golden gloves to inhibit his radiance.
This was often met with taunts from his half-brother, Thor, but his brother Hodr would always look after him.The relationship between the Brothers of Light and Darkness, however, would later sour.
One day, a horse-drawn carriage was dashing at full speed through Asgard and collided with Balder's own carriage. A goddess named Nanna appeared before Balder, who chided him for blocking her path before taking off again just as quickly.
Balder did not react until after she had already left. Where the other Aesir usually regarded him with reverence, this goddess just now greeted him with scorn.
After making inquiries, he learned that she was the daughter of the God of War, Tyr. He went to find his brother Hodr to tell him of how he wished to win Nanna's heart.
What he did not anticipate, however, was that Hodr was pursuing her as well.Thus Balder chooses to quietly withdraw.
Later, Odin the Allfather led his forces in a crusade against the Kingdom of「Froster」. On the eve of his triumphant return, Balder had a nightmare— it seemed so real that he awoke with a start.
