SHOULD I PLAY JUMP: ASSEMBLE?
Even anime fans should skip this one. Jump: Assemble lacks creativity and fails to deliver anything that hasn’t already been done better by other mobile MOBAs, aside from its star-studded cast of anime characters. I love many of the anime and manga characters featured here, such as Naruto and Goku, but even that love isn’t enough to keep me interested in playing this game. TIME PLAYED
I played Jump: Assemble for four hours. I played twenty-some matches with each one lasting ten to twenty minutes. It took me two hours to unlock ranked matchmaking, and I’ve acquired nine characters out of the current roster of twenty-five at this point.
WHAT’S AWESOME ABOUT JUMP: ASSEMBLE?
• Anime characters. From One Piece to Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen, Jump: Assemble pulls from some of the best anime in the world for its cast of twenty-five playable characters. Each character’s abilities and play style feel naturally tied to the skills of the actual characters. It’s clear that the game’s developers are actual fans to have captured the feel of these iconic characters so well.
WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN JUMP: ASSEMBLE?
• It’s nothing new. Besides the anime characters, there’s nothing exciting about Jump: Assemble. The gameplay offers nothing that I haven’t seen in dozens of other MOBAs. It just feels like someone taped a bunch of cool characters to a subpar game and expected everyone to like it.
• Visual design. Again, aside from the characters, Jump: Assemble looks like every other multiplayer online battle arena. It’s just depressing. The game’s environment and minions take some inspiration from Dragon Ball, at least, but, the layout of the map, the interface, and the controls all feel like they were copied from other games and reskinned.
• Don’t play it right now. Unless you’re in a few very specific territories, accessing Jump: Assemble’s closed beta requires using a VPN. Given all its other problems, it’s just not worth jumping through those hoops just to play something bland and unoriginal. I suggest waiting until it’s more widely available, which will also give you time to see if the game as a whole gets any better, even if I’m skeptical that it will.

As much as I love Naruto, I can't justify playing a subpar game just for the characters.
