SHOULD I PLAY SOUL KNIGHT PREQUEL?
Definitely give Soul Knight Prequel a go if you’re into dungeon crawlers, RPGs, indie titles, and of course, the original Soul Knight. This pixel-art gem should please anyone who loves fantasy games or RPGs.
TIME PLAYED
I spent around six hours on Soul Knight Prequel exploring the different character classes, builds, zones, and the game’s massive arsenal of weapons.
WHAT’S AWESOME ABOUT SOUL KNIGHT PREQUEL ?
• The dope tunes and visuals. Who doesn’t love classic pixelated art and chiptune horns? Soul Knight Prequel’s retro visuals are a joy to look at, but the simpler graphics also meant that the game ran easily on my older Samsung A03s phone.
• The cool characters and customization. Soul Knight Prequel has all the classic character classes I expect from an RPG, like thief, warrior, and archer. But it’s the hybrid classes that up the ante and take the expected play styles to the next level. Classes like the assassin—which mixes warrior and thief—or the ranger—a blend of thief and archer—made me carefully consider the path I wanted to take in building my character. There’s plenty of customization to be found beyond combat style too. I was able to tweak small aspects of how my character looked, and I also enjoyed getting to deck out a unique room with furniture and set up my own little garden.
• The fast-paced action and weapons. Sure, slashing away at monsters and raiding dungeons is always fun, but the sheer number of weapons kept me invested in Soul Knight Prequel. In a way, it was overwhelming. I never wanted to stick with one weapon because I was always finding new things to try. Crossbows, swords, scrolls, staffs, shields—it was enough to overwhelm me and keep my inventory packed. And with the promise of nine hundred-plus pieces of gear, there’s a lot more left for me to play around with.
• The funky environments. Soul Knight Prequel offers diverse biomes that kept me interested in moving the narrative forward. From marshes to cemeteries to deserts, each region was unique and had its own challenges and enemies to overcome. I’ve yet to get bored playing this game, and the variety in design has kept me pushing forward to eagerly unlock each new region.
WHAT SUCKS ABOUT SOUL KNIGHT PREQUEL?
• The simple story. RPGs are my go-to genre for complex and well-written stories. If you’re expecting a deep narrative in Soul Knight Prequel, though, you’re going to be disappointed. The plot provides the barest excuse to bring some adventurers together to hack and slash at monsters. Then again, this basic setup might be precisely what players want if they’re not looking for anything too heavy.
