Five outrageously absurd gifts for gamers this holiday season

Five outrageously absurd gifts for gamers this holiday season

951 View2023-12-21
It’s the holiday season, and Christmas is right around the corner. If you’re like me, you end up waiting until the last minute possible to get out and shop for goodies. Sure, this may not be the most efficient method, but it’s always interesting seeing all the crazy left on the shelves that more timely shoppers didn’t deem worth picking up. These gifts are one of the things I love about Christmas: the strange, unique, and absurd gift ideas.
With just five days left until Christmas and plenty of presents left to purchase, I scoured the internet for some of the weirdest gamer gift ideas I could find.

1. Crystal Pokémon Poké Ball - $500

What do you get the Pokémon fan that has everything? The answer is a  $500 Crystal Poké Ball! I’ve dropped a lot of money on this franchise over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever spent close to this much in a single purchase on a paperweight. I won’t judge, though. Perhaps there are folks out there with really important documents and really need to make sure their papers won’t blow away in the wind? They say it’s the thought that counts, but if I’m dropping this much dough on a gift, I definitely think the price tag counts too.

2. Street Fighter by Capcom Eau De Toilette Spray - $19.01

Want to smell like your favorite fighting game, or at the very least like you’ve just got out of a street fight? Then the Street Fighter Eau De Toilette Spray might be the gift for you. I’m not sure I totally understand the connection between fighting and smelling good. If anything, I’d probably want to take a shower after a fight, what with all the sweat and blood. But perhaps I’m just being naive; maybe after spraying some Street Fighter-branded cologne, opponents will come running at you. It’s the perfect gift for that friend or family member who’s always looking for a fight.

3. Starfield Duvet Cover Set - $90

Ever wanted to sleep under the stars? Or dying for a way to use your bedding to insist that Starfield is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to video games? Now you can pull off both of those goals at the same time by decorating your bed with this cool Starfield duvet. Admittedly, I’ve yet to play Starfield, but I would love to be gifted these bedsheets if only because of the excellent pickup lines I could use on the ladies. “Hey girl, I’m not just going to show you the world, I’ll show you the galaxy.” Or maybe, “Are you the sun? Because you’re the center of my universe.” Striking out with lines like that is impossible! And the nice-looking sheets can’t hurt.

4. Xbox Series X Replica Mini Fridge - $129.99

For those who think an Xbox Series X is too expensive, maybe you can settle on an Xbox minifridge? Sure, it may not be able to play games, go online, or do any of the cool stuff an actual Xbox can...but think of all the extra space to store drinks! One might argue products like these are a quick cash grab for the “gamer market,” but everyone needs a way to keep their beverage of choice cool. If sitting on the couch and playing Xbox while drinking Mountain Dew from an Xbox fridge is an option, why shouldn’t I embrace it?

5. Call of Duty Zombie Ray Gun Replica - $600

I’m as much of a Call of Duty fan as anyone, but dropping $600 on a replica ray gun seems a bit...excessive? Then again, if you’re shopping for a collector, this might be the perfect gift. In fact, this one is actually sold out right now, so there must be a market for it! Still, until there’s an actual zombie apocalypse where I actually need a ray gun, I’m happy living out my fantasies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. See you on the battlefield.

Gifts of Christmas past - the best games I've unwrapped for the holidays
Christmas is a time for friends, family, celebration, and spreading joy to all humanity. But let's cut to the chase, people... It's about the presents! For me, that meant video games! When I was growing up, video games were a huge expense. This meant two things. I got new games for my birthday and Christmas. The rest of the year was spent playing games at a buddy's place or borrowing games.
