Game: One Punch Man World
Platform: Mobile
Genre: Gacha, Fighting, Adventure
Overview
I had a lot of fun with the beta of One Punch Man World before it was launched.
It felt fair, alright, and ready to evolve into something much bigger than what it has become. It's a gacha that manages to truly get in with a tight grasp, forcing you to play for an unreasonable period of time with very little in rewards to be expected in the hopes of eventually getting those 10/60 tickets to pull your guaranteed SSR from the ridiculous 0.3% pull rate filled with pointless R chips and very little characters.
Even If you did manage to pull one, the real power comes from the 0.3% SSR chips for THAT character so good luck ever feeling like you're doing any raw damage.
It's an adaptation of the anime/manga, but it also feels like filler to extend the game's duration. Despite some extremely well-done cinematics and cutscenes, it just keeps getting worse once you finally hit that wall where you need to wait for a very long time or start shelling out a lot of your money so that they can milk this game until it dies.
Issues
Normally, I just reload my account and keep trying to summon at least one character that I'm interested in before I jump into a new gacha, but the length of the intro tutorial demotivates me to even try because it's a nuisance and ultimately a waste of time because there are quite a few characters that are not currently available to pull.
Constraints are everywhere, making it difficult to sit back and enjoy the game. You'll get a few story missions, and then they suddenly want you to go out and accomplish a large list of activities that can take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, such as assisting citizens and doing other things, while occasionally playing through the actual story in between all of the background filler that has been going on.
It may not appear to be a lot of work until you remember that you are level 14 and need to gain 6 levels in order to continue. Each side mission providing 100–120 EXP and taking 20 minutes to finish, but you need nearly 300 to move forward.
Completing commissions costs you up to 12–60 energy, and you won't get much EXP in return maybe 20–40 for 180 energy, which is meaningless and a waste of resources because you'll need that for the story missions and events later on.
The only other major difficulty that everyone is experiencing is the inability to log in. The simplest remedy is to keep spamming the screen and the log-in button in the center, and you'll get in after around 5–6 attempts if not upwards to 15.
Graphics & Presentation
Out of everything that has changed between now and the beta, I can certainly say that the heroes' animations were really well done and polished, including the music, the combat, and everything else visually. It's great to admire their footwork and movement as they cast their ultimates, activate their synergy, and, of course, their facial expressions, moods, and emotions that aren't overly dramatic but also not lacking as it showcases a lot of personality from them and the developers.
They have included a lot more smooth cinematics that do not lag or cause any issues as they help you become more immersed into Z-City and the action surrounding it.
Gameplay
It's a 50/50. I genuinely enjoy the combat. However, the problem I had the most was that you are limited to only a few characters and have almost no ability as a free player to get additional ones, especially if you aren't lucky with the Gacha rates. I'd want to see more diversity, but they want money or you to continue playing for a week straight of gated content while accomplishing every single daily task to acquire a single free SSR hero or villain outside of Genos or collecting 2-5 coins for each achievement you complete when you need upwards to 2600 to get a single 10 pull.
The only other thing I could genuinely play and enjoy was the cinema quick-time event mini-game, which is essentially a copy of Yakuza Like A Dragon but in a far more simple design. Which was entertaining, but it wasn't anything they came up with themselves, so it felt like nothing more than a feature to distract you while you're bored out of your mind and have nothing else to do but wait.
Conclusion
I've never felt so defeated in my life when attempting to simply sit down and enjoy a game from a series that I and many others have long admired. I can't bring myself to drag my feet across the ground and do 7-9 side missions just to possibly unlock the next main anime scene and boss fight. It is simply just too frustrating.
Crunchyroll has a solid track record of closing games, regardless of how good or bad they are, since they realize they are no longer profitable. I think I'll re-watch the anime.
i was playing that game and when i got to the theater part i remember playing it from yakuza like a dragon and was like wtf

Author likedI wonder what other mini-games and content they decided to just blatantly plagiarize. It's unfortunate, but is what it is :/

a gacha game which we cant earn ticket to do the gacha.. I love the gameplay and all, but to think we hardly earn ticket to do the gacha is a big let down for me.. I level up till 14, and call it quits.. And yeah, the tutorial.. Oh man.. I quit three times before completing the first 1-2 stage

Author likedSeems like they thought very well on the many different approaches to how they could really put their players in a headlock and strangle them until they give in to the temptation to just buy their currency.

why is this so true? sad crunchy rolls greediness will be killing this game's potential.

Author likedHonesty goes along way, but yeah. Crunchyroll is well known for destroying a games potential no matter how bad or popular it is, all because of the desire to make as much money from their players as possible. It's one of the worst Gacha games available.
