World War I, while a time of destruction and great loss of life, was also a time of innovation, both on and off the battlefield. Aviation was only 11 years old when the war broke out, and the idea of a war in the air still seemed like science fiction. The aviators of World War I developed tactics and maneuvers that would later form the basis of air combat. Ace Academy: Black Flight aims to share some of that experience with modern audiences, albeit in a small way. The aircraft featured in Black Flight are all from the collection of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. Most, but not all, were flown by pilots from Naval 10. The Bristol F.2B Fighter and Sopwith Snipe were not Squadron aircraft. They were included to give players a wider variety of aircraft, while also showcasing the great leaps in aircraft technology and design that were made at the time.
