Wuthering Waves is, without a doubt, a great game in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics, and combat system. The movement is fluid, the animations are top-tier, and the overall atmosphere is immersive. It really feels like a game made with care when it comes to how it plays and looks. However, for players like me who care a lot about the story and character development, the narrative side of things feels lacking — and honestly, it’s disappointing.
The story has potential, sure, but it just doesn’t hit the emotional depth or complexity I was hoping for. The writing often feels surface-level, and there’s not enough weight behind the events that happen. It feels like the game wants to seem deep, but doesn’t actually go there. What really frustrates me is how the characters treat the Rover (the protagonist). They barely scratch the surface of their relationship with the Rover — there’s so little meaningful interaction or personal growth tied to the main character that it’s hard to feel connected or invested. Everyone just sort of… acknowledges your presence and moves on. It's shallow, and it does piss me off a bit because the world feels like it should be rich with story, but the writing just doesn’t deliver.
Another thing that might bother some players is the character design, specifically when it comes to how the female characters are animated. There's definitely some jiggly physics going on — even characters with smaller chests have unnatural movement, and it’s hard not to notice it. It gives off that overly sexualized vibe that doesn’t really add anything to the experience and might actually turn off players who prefer more grounded or realistic character animations. It’s not just a “fan service” thing — it’s distracting, and it makes it harder to take some characters seriously.
To be clear, I’m not saying the whole game is bad — far from it. The combat is incredible, the visual details are stunning, and the small touches (like battle wounds, water effects, and the skip button for non-story players) really show that the developers put thought into the gameplay experience. But for those of us who care deeply about the story, character writing, and world-building, Wuthering Waves feels more like a missed opportunity. It could be something truly special, but right now, it just doesn’t have the narrative heart to match its visual brilliance.
