Not long after I started Super Mario Bros. Wonder, I was treated to an impromptu musical number. The mountains in the background bounced in time with the music. Piranha plants sang in perfect harmony. Some of them even jumped out of their pipes so that they could shake what their mama gave them. After nearly forty years of smashing blocks and stomping on Goombas, it feels like Mario’s done everything he could possibly do: He’s piloted an airplane, rode multiple dinosaurs, fought sumo wrestlers, turned himself into a human balloon, and dressed up like everything from a penguin to a cat. But this year, after a long, painful wait, Mario finally returned in his first 2D adventure in more than a decade, and somehow, the series feels more innovative than ever.

You're never too old to enjoy a classic experience, I probably wouldn't have said that earlier this week. However, I finally decided it was time to take up a series of older titles than what I'm used to playing and see where things lead me. I can't believe how really entertaining these games are, even after more than 20 years! They're as vivid, exciting, and innovative as ever!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder adds fresh but never out-of-place ideas to keep fans returning.
