Undawn is an open-world survival game but this category can mean a lot. While downloading the game I did not have huge expectations. I was under the impression that I’ll have a character with the usual tutorial at the beginning and the game will be about shooting brainless zombies. After starting to play my eyebrows raised and I have to say that I got really impressed!
The tutorial itself is brilliant as it’s already actual gameplay and part of the story. You are not instantly overwhelmed with all the features you have in the game. The balance between introducing new skills/options and the pace of the story is simply perfect. The storyline is exciting enough and I was actually reading all the dialog.
Relatively early in the game, you arrive at the Raven Shelter and that’s where it all begins! At that point, I realized that the game offers a LOT!! The game is not a brainless shooter… No… you have the build your own homestead and protect it. You have the take care of your character’s well-being physically and mentally. I loved the notification which popped up saying that my body is in an okay state but a bit of exercise would be welcome.
Besides the main storyline, you’ll have the option to just cruise around on your motorcycle and explore the world looking for adventure. Since it’s a PVPVE game it comes with a lot of excitement as you can never be sure if you’ll survive the next journey. Let me highlight that you can influence the connection between your character and the NPCs and my assumption is that over time you’ll have people close to you. In the wood house with Sherry during “The First Night” task you’re answer does not impact anything but still, it’s fun to get option-based answers (see below).
There are soo many areas that require time to explore - and I’m not just referring to the map but all the features. Starting with the character creation screen where you can easily spend hours. You will also have the option to build and enhance your homestead making it bigger and better with all kinds of fancy furniture. Yes, there’s an actual build mode in the game. Regarding weapons, there are also a bunch of customization options that I did not expect. I thought you’d get a shotgun and that’s it but no… you can customize and enhance certain parts of it. You’ll find several stats related to your character such as hunger, tiredness, etc. Then you have certain skills you can learn and improve. Again, there’s WAY more in this game than I expected.
I could continue this article forever even only playing a few hours in CBT. I would strongly recommend trying the game if you like survival games and after a day or two, you’ll be able to decide if Undawn is for you or not. There’s massive work behind this and there is a chance that it may become a big title in the world of mobile games in the upcoming years!
