Grand Quest just entered open beta, and as someone who's always searching for my next go-to gacha game, I had to give it a shot. So far, I'm definitely pretty impressed, though it has some work to go.
Perhaps the biggest surprise in Grand Quest, especially when compared to other gacha games, is that the story is pretty entertaining and well-translated. Much of it is told through stylish comic book-panel cutscenes, and I was shocked to find myself actually enjoying getting to know these characters.
That's not to say the combat is a slouch. Grand Quest features slick, fast auto-play battles where I got to decide when to use the characters' ultimate abilities, summon in allies for help, and tweak how often consumable power-ups were used. It's all fun and tightly designed to encourage playing more.
Unfortunately, by playing more I quickly hit a wall for what was possible. Grand Quest has a pretty small pool of characters to pull from its gacha right now, and leveling those characters up requires a lot of gold and upgrade materials. The game severely limits how many upgrade materials can be gained daily, so I found myself stuck having to wait for a new day much faster than I'd have liked. Hopefully that pacing gets improved on over the course of beta and more content is added to flesh things out by the time the game launches properly!
