Fighting the Root - Remnant 2

8K View2023-08-15
Without a doubt, one of Remnant 2's strengths is its world design. Each area seems to have been meticulously thought out, with a lot of attention to detail.
The player will take on the role of a traveler who is looking for shelter, more specifically Ward 13. Our traveler is not alone, they will have to defend their friend who is infected by a virus that has been leaving its marks, hence the urgency to find shelter in order to find a cure. Set in a world reminiscent of The Last of Us, it quickly moves from exploration to action. “The Root”, a race of enemies present in Remnant: From the Ashes and thought to have been eradicated from Earth, decides to toast the player with some units. In a kind of combat tutorial to make the player get comfortable with its mechanics. After finding the camp and a series of events, the World Stone is activated and the objective becomes to travel to different worlds in order to find a group of lost people and eradicate “The Root” from the face of the Earth.

The sequel to the popular souls-like shooter | First Impressions - Remnant II
The sequel to 2019's Remnant: From the Ashes, Remnant II promises improved graphics, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and a challenging souls-like journey through randomized environments. As a solo adventurer or alongside two friends in co-op, players will explore the various mind-bending worlds, fight for humanity's survival, and uncover the mysteries that threaten reality itself. Each world presents a unique setting and backstory, immersing players in a diverse array of environments ranging from sci-fi alien-looking landscapes and lush forests, to medieval looking cities, and post-apocalyptic modern earth. The game begins with players creating their character and going through a brief tutorial. From the three classes in the first game, the whole class selection has been entirely revamped and now features five distinct new classes to start with, with many more unlockable later on. The starting classes are Gunslinger - a class focused on ammo and damage; Handler - a pet-based buffer; Challenger – a tanky character; Medic - a support character focused on heals; and Hunter - a long-ranged damage dealer. The character can run, dodge-roll, and perform both shooting and melee attacks, governed by a stamina system when enemies are nearby. The hub from the first game, Ward 13 is back and bigger than before. Here, players will spend a substantial amount of time crafting mods, upgrading weapons, and stocking up on consumables… as long as they have the necessary materials that are gained from dungeon runs. Red Crystals in the map all over the game function as checkpoints that offer healing and ammo replenishment at the cost of respawning enemies; as well as teleportation between worlds, akin to bonfires in the Dark Souls series. The gunplay and its controls are amazing. Guns feel powerful and they’ve made hits as satisfying as melee hits in traditional souls-like games. Enemies pose a tough challenge, even going as far as having equipped themselves with dodge mechanics to avoid bullets as much as they can. Just like the first game, the randomized nature of almost everything in Remnant II such as Dungeons adds a lot of replayability and variety. Players must adapt to their surroundings, as each playthrough presents different challenges, layouts,  and enemies. The variety of zones, mini-bosses, and final bosses in each world contributes to the game's replayability, making it essential to explore and farm better loot.

Do you loot much? - Remnant 2
When I started my journey in Remnant 2 I didn't know at all what to expect. The first adventure has completely passed under my radar, but I had contact with the titles previously produced by the hand of the Gunfire Games studio, which means the Darksiders franchise. Interestingly none of them was an experience that had a lot of gunfire mechanics. Remnant came to change that perspective and quickly became an adventure for me, quite interesting. Everything from its premise, combat, co-op aspect, art direction, and lore are quite complete and print hours of fun and exploration in search of better equipment.

Time to head out into the world - Humans vs. Eldritch Gods! Remnant 2 Review
Summary: Survivors of humanity against new deadly creatures and god-like bosses across terrifying worlds. Play solo or co-op with two other friends to explore the depths of the unknown to stop evil from destroying reality itself. Verdict: Remnant 2 is a significant improvement from Remnant from Ashes, a brand new world with more horrifying monsters and many adventures you can have with friends and others online. It has been rated Very Positive on Steam and other consoles!
