When I first played Arena Breakout back in February I didn’t think this game would get any better. But I’m more than glad to say that the latest update has proven me wrong. Arena Breakout Season 2 has revitalized the game and made the experience more chaotic and fun. Now, I’m no expert when it comes to Arena Breakout, so I can’t confidently speak about all the minuscule changes to weapons or stats, but even I can notice how far its come since its beta. The visuals feel even more polished and the animation seems more natural. Those visuals blew me away when I first played the game early this year, and they still do over half a year later. If you showed me footage of this game and told me it was on PC or console rather than mobile, I wouldn’t even question it.
On top of that, I love how the developers designed the latest map, “Port.” This level takes on a coastal theme, with shipwrecks, docks, and a lot of European architecture. “Port” feels unique In comparison to other maps like “Northridge” and “Valley.” It has a lot more open space across streets and parks, and there are more places to discover and loot from. Because of this open space and all the closed buildings, I couldn’t find many places to hide either, which meant gunfights occurred more commonly across the map, making for really chaotic, action-packed matches.
I enjoyed this chaos and found it really fascinating how “Port” completely changed the way I played. On other maps like “Farm” or “Valley,” I played more stealthily and tried to get eliminations from afar, ducked behind a tree or bush. With “Port,” I didn’t really have the security of hiding and slowly inching myself toward the extraction point because of the environment. I had to face multiple enemies and just head straight into the action, which resulted in more aggressive plays and bigger risks. And although that goes against the whole strategy part of Arena Breakout’s tactical gameplay, it was exhilarating to just run around guns blazing without a care in the world.
“Port” has one noteworthy problem though. I’ve played the game on high graphic settings for my entire time with it, even during the beta, and it was only when I was playing matches on “Port” that my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra started to heat up. I’m guessing that since “Port” is a larger map with much more visual depth, it just strained my hardware a little, but it’s something to be mindful of for anyone looking to play the game, especially if you’re on a less powerful device. I ended up lowering my graphic settings to cool down my phone.
Everything about this latest update feels fantastic. Aside from the great new map and some more polished visuals, it’s still the same awesome game that I had a lot of fun playing earlier this year. “Port” feels like it opens the door for future Arena Breakout maps to continue exploring more densely packed, urban settings. I love maps like “Valley” and “Farm,” where there are forests and trees across the entire world, but the fun of exploring a concrete jungle has me optimistic about where the game might take me in the future.
