I've been absolutely inhaling Alan Wake 2 since review code arrived, and you can check out my quick review over on the TapTap Editor account now. It's grabbed my attention in a way few games have the ability to these days—I'm always being pulled to the next big thing, and rarely have the time to sit down and actually finish something.
Alan Wake II, however, pings another one of my big interests, and that's weird fiction. Also called speculative fiction (or spec fiction for short), it's kind of an intersection between horror, sci-fi, conspiracy theory, and true crime. It's the same intersection where you'll find a lot of Reddit creepypasta, and it's the one where Alan Wake and Control live.
If you're interested in this kind of thing, I have a couple podcast recommendations:
  • The Wrong Station - An anthology of original horror and weird fiction, expertly performed and produced.
  • Old Gods of Appalachia - A long-running story about an alternate Appalachia, in which magic and monsters are very, very real.
  • Strange Studies of Strange Stories - Chad Fifer and Chris Lackey read and discuss genre classics by H.P. Lovecraft, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert E. Howard, and many more.
  • The SCP Archives - Full-cast productions of cases found on the SCP Foundation wiki,, which was a major influence on Remedy's Control.
  • I Am In Eskew - A surreal tale about a man trapped in a purgatorial city where things do not make sense.
  • The Antiquarium of Sinister Happenings - Another horror anthology series, this one set in a strange little shop where each relic is attached to a spine-chilling story.
A few of these podcasts deal with some sensitive themes, so be sure to check for any content warnings before listening.

Alan Wake 2 offers a terrifying, warped reality in which David Lynch made Resident Evil 4
SHOULD I PLAY ALAN WAKE 2? Absolutely play it if you’ve got a machine that can run it. Alan Wake 2 is a uniquely spine-chilling return to Bright Falls, Washington, where crime novelist Alan Wake disappeared thirteen years ago. Part murder mystery, part survival horror, Alan Wake 2 is jam-packed with developer Remedy Entertainment’s signature style, which now includes the reality-warping government agency from

TapTap Game of the Year 2023 #4: Alan Wake II - the best action game of 2023
Alan Wake II starts off like a gritty detective serial, but it doesn’t take long for reality to break down completely. It whisks players along on a surreal adventure through dreams and memories that is at turns terrifying, grandiose, and hilarious. It’s the rare game that defies genre boundaries and illustrates the incredible power of video games as a new storytelling medium, one that can draw inspiration from older forms while never being constrained by them.
