SHOULD I PLAY LOST FUTURE?
Lost Future has a lot going for it, especially if you’re the type that likes post-apocalyptic adventures. I had a blast exploring the open world, building my base, and taking down the undead. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get past the glitches in the game, and I mean that literally. No matter how many times I reloaded the game, I couldn’t progress past a particular zombie-killing mission—which sucked because I would’ve loved to spend more time in this world. TIME PLAYED
I spent around two hours in the post-apocalyptic world of Lost Future. This mostly involved running from site to site and scouring locations for resources to complete missions and build up my base.
WHAT’S AWESOME ABOUT LOST FUTURE?
• Open world survival. It’s 2035, and everything has gone to hell! Exploring the world of Lost Future was pretty fun, and I was surprised at how creepy it felt rummaging through abandoned locations while trying to avoid large zombie hordes. Lost Future is entirely PvE and does a great job of creating a post-apocalyptic world worth exploring. It’s easy to get lost here and just peruse through the battered-down landscape of 2035, searching for loot.
• Building up my base. The base management added a sense of accomplishment to Lost Future. Each time I made it back to base, I was looking for new things to upgrade and craft to help me survive. There were plenty of things to collect as well, so learning about the various items, weapons, and tools I could create added another layer of complexity to something that might easily turn into a mindless third-person zombie shooter.
• My crew. Lost Future has a fun mechanic that let me switch characters anytime. This added some variety to the combat, but the dialogue was also a bit different depending on the characters I selected. Nothing could beat switching out a character when I was getting my ass pummeled by a horde of zombies. I also liked that I had three characters to manage and could equip them with different items and tools.
• Those mid-2000s graphics. Yeah, Lost Future isn’t exactly at the cutting edge of graphics, but for a mobile game, I thought they were pretty cool. And because the graphics weren’t incredibly detailed, it ran smoothly on my iPhone 13, and even after playing for two hours, my phone didn’t feel like it was about to explode from overheating. It was a nice balance.
WHAT SUCKS ABOUT LOST FUTURE?
• The glitches. I can’t stress enough how frustrating it was that I couldn’t continue playing because the game crashed and wouldn’t let me continue. even more than that, there were times during combat when zombies would be frozen without a head, or the fight animations would result in a character’s arm disappearing or appearing through a zombie’s head. This absolutely is something that needs to be adjusted.
• Repetitive animations. The fight animations were indeed cool, but there was only one style of animation when I used my adrenaline bar, and it wouldn’t be great if there were multiple special moves I could pull off. Maybe this is introduced later in the game, but I wouldn’t know because of the buggy system that always crashed.
