Reverse 1999 is one of the more hyped up gaccha game title that has released globally this year. With hype comes expectations and I am glad that the game has managed to leave a very good first impression in just 6 hours of my playtime (as of this post).
Story/Premise
To my understanding so far, the world is unable to move forward beyond the year 1999. Instead, a phenomenon called the "storm" occurs that "sifts" away those that are not worthy to remain. A very interesting premise so far and the phenomenal cutscene that are in-game really helps in conveying the fundamental story and premise.
Story-Telling
When it comes to story-telling, this game does not hold back!
Beautiful CG Art & Background:
Fully voice acted alongside live 2D sprite with different facial animations and hand gestures to convey more emotion and movement:
The game is utilising it's medium of story-telling to the fullest!
Turn-Based Gameplay
Reverse 1999 is a turn based game with a mix of card system. Each of your character has 1 ultimate and 2 abilities which are represented as cards in battle. When two of the same ability cards are nearby, the cards merge into a stronger version of that ability. In addition to that, different abilities fall under different categories such as offensive, buff, de-buff, healing and etc. There is still alot more to the combat systems but as this is a first impression (and I only have 6 hours of playtime as of now), I will refrain from going too in-depth.
TLDR is that it is a quite deep and well thought out turn based gameplay system!
Additional Things Of Note
The character designs are great, fitting and unique for it's setting and can range from beautiful waifus & husbandos to talking apples, UFO and a set of TVs.....
Never have I seen this kind of variety in a gaccha game
Also I really liked how for the base/housing idle system, your building an island. Placing plots of land, buildings and making rivers, ponds and etc. Can't wait to unlock more furniture and delve into it more!
A Good First Impression
As the gaccha game industry keeps getting more and more competitive, leaving a good first Impression is very important and Reverse 1999 definitely manages to do so. Will definitely be sticking around with the game and see how it unfolds.
Heck yeah, love the diverse character design in Reverse 1999!
