It certainly isn’t as scary as Resident Evil or Silent Hill but is much more approachable and digestible as a game.
Heaven’s Dust 2 is all about paying close attention to your surroundings to survive. The isometric camera angle gives you a good vantage point of each room to scope out for important objects and potential enemies. Information you can glean and find are all pivotal to progress, as the game’s main form of progression comes in the form of puzzle solving.
Patience is key here as properly aiming at zombies takes time. Once the laser reticle is aligned, Steve will be able to deal meaningful damage. Firing recklessly will only waste precious bullets. It’s a survival horror game; inventory and resource managing is another core aspect to the experience.
You are given a bird’s eye view of your surroundings but this can appear misleading at times as the camera angle turns walls invisible. Also, inability to turn camera angles make navigation and maneuvering a hassle.
Still, Heaven’s Dust 2 is an affordable and worthwhile game that is a clear love letter to Resident Evil and classic survival horror games of a bygone era. It may not look like the most impressive game out there, but it knows what it’s about.
If you jump into this game knowing it is an homage to survival horror greats, you will have a grand old time. Just try not to get lost.
