Roto Force, the pixel-style bullet hell shooter, has officially released this week on mobile and PC. Developed by an indie solo dev and published by specialized indie game publisher PID Games, Roto Force has gone through multiple stages starting from a game jam entry at the very beginning. Starstride is an indie MMORPG style game, one of the 3 main topics of the new INDIE SPOTLIGHT event 🎮. As soon as you enter the game you are given the opportunity to customise your character, as well as his race (Neoterran or Woken) then you will go straight into your first mission in which you will defeat your first boss! I've been a huge fan of Yacht Club's retro love letter Shovel Knight since it first released in 2014, but I had yet to try out the puzzle game spin-off, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. Now that Pocket Dungeon is out on mobile via Netflix, I've run out of excuses to avoid giving it a try. Good news: It totally rules. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon once again put me in control of the delightful and heroic Shovel Knight, along with some other Knight friends I could unlock as I found them hidden away in shrines. This time, though, instead of working my way through NES-style platforming levels, I was led through a series of, well, pocket dungeons by the mysterious Puzzle Knight.

Abyss is a solid roguelike ARPG with distinctive hand-drawn visuals. It looks a little more like a Saturday-morning cartoon than an anime, but there were times when it made me think of one of my favorite manga series, Made in Abyss. The gameplay loop is a simple one: enter the mysterious abyss, fight through hordes of monsters, choose character upgrades, and score lots of loot. While the abyss is infinite, you can send your hero on missions where they scope out a specific number of floors. Once you complete a mission, you can head back to safety and apply permanent upgrades to your hero.

SHOULD I PLAY BIBOTS? Play it if you’re looking for an Enter the Gungeon-style roguelite for your mobile device. Bibots is a simple but demanding little top-down shooter, and if you’ve ever gotten hooked on games like The Binding of Isaac, the format will be instantly familiar. TIME PLAYED I’ve played about an hour and a half of the Android version of Bibots, but I’m still learning my way around the first biome. Like I mentioned before, it’s a pretty demanding game, and I’m still getting used to the touch controls, which felt a bit too slippery for the kind of precision movement I needed to pull off in rooms that had more than a couple of enemies in them. There’s plenty to unlock, but so far I’ve leveled my first character up to level four.
