Game: Backpack Battles

Platform: PC & possibly Mobile!

Genre: Auto Battler, Strategy, Multiplayer, Management
Overview
Aside from Backpack Battles, which will be released on March 8th, there weren't many games that captured my interest enough during this year's Steam Next Fest to keep me playing long after the event had ended. It's just that, despite its barebones design, presentation, and gameplay, the game manages to provide a long-lasting and enjoyable experience where you just want to play a quick game to pass the time.

It makes you think and forces you to take risks, and it allows you to challenge other players and their builds at each stage of the game while gradually climbing the competitive side through the ranking board. There is a steep learning curve for how to correctly create and organize your backpack and all of its active effects.

Following the release of the PC version, the developer has stated that, while he cannot guarantee it will eventually be released for mobile devices, the idea exists due to how simple it would be to port; it really depends on how much demand it has.
Graphics & Presentation
I'm sure you're acquainted with Backpack Hero, that little Itchi.o mouse game that was launched on Steam, featuring excellent music, pixel animations, dungeon crawling, and more, but Backpack Battles, while being exactly the same in terms of organizing your backpack with weapons, armor, and food, is so much simpler.

I love how the visuals complement the setting the game is trying to achieve. It's basic enough that you can comprehend the design when you first pick it up; it's clear, and everything stands out in the shop and in your backpack, so it's up to you to use this information to learn more about the underlying methods you can use to boost your chances of winning, which feels so exciting when things go your way 100%.
Gameplay
Backpack Battles begins with a preset build based on the character you choose to play as. The Ranger, Reaper, or other classes that will be released with the full version, each has their own unique bag that has an impact on the overall gameplay. Rangers gain a lot of critical chance, which is great for powerful weapons. The Reaper starts out with poison and de-buffs, which are quite powerful as they stand.

As you progress through each battle, consider what you'll bring to the following fights. You may need to reorder your backpacks, as well as the weapons and many of the extra added-on effects of support items, to fully utilize their full potential.

You only get 5 chances before you are finally defeated and have to start over. You can win up to 15 in a row, which is highly satisfying but also very difficult given how many other players have organized their bags around enormous shields, buffs, de-buffs, and damage. Regardless, it's a very addictive game!
Conclusion
If you're bored and want to play a quick game where you're truly sitting down and strategizing about the full possibilities of each and every attempt you make at managing a pack full of potential, then this game has everything you're looking for.

366 Days of Gaming: Day 27
Day 27: Tiny Guardians Platform: Android This is an auto battler where you summon different classes of characters to protect the main character throughout her journey. Each class has a different function, weakness, and advantage. You play through waves of enemies as you make your way through each stage (which surprisingly isn't just in a straight line like most other games of this type) and there are a lot of different types of enemies to encounter. It reminds me of an RPG party making their way through a level mostly on their own. I like the balance of auto and interactive, as there are several things you have to do and not just leave them to their own devices, such as: summoning additional characters to fight alongside, casting some spells, picking up potions off the field, and changing character formation so you have fighters on the front lines and ranged and casters in the back etc. You change directions and enemies spawn from different sides so paying attention to formation is a must. I also found it really cool that if one of your fighters gets downed during combat, they will automatically revive after a certain amount of time, so there's no need to worry about struggling to have mana to resummon them with. I recommend Tiny Guardians to anyone who likes RPG style auto battlers that you don't just sit and watch boringly.
