Week 3 Review

Week 3 brought yet another lineup change for us. Nic felt his Jormund wasn't progressing as expected, even though I thought his DPS was solid and just needed a bit more practice. So, the plan is for him to switch to Fenrir, who has better survivability. The catch? All our DPS would now be physical. Henlee also switched back to roaming with Rathgricy. We're making these adjustments because, by week 3, things are getting serious, and we can't rely on Thor's cling skill all the time.

Honestly, Potank as Saint is outperforming our previous Saint by a mile. As someone playing Thor, this feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s such a relief knowing someone has my back when I'm suppressed. Nic’s switch to Fenrir is also a game-changer, providing excellent crowd control with Tomb.

The real challenge now is connecting all these pieces into a cohesive team. From the beginning, we've had good ideas but struggled with team cohesion, and that’s been a big problem for us. With everyone stepping up, we just need to figure out how to sync our strategies and work seamlessly together. Once we nail that, we'll be unstoppable!

We're also running into issues with Map 3. Attica and I are used to playing very aggressively, pushing straight to the enemy base, while Ichwan and Nic prefer a slower, more tactical approach. This difference in playstyles makes coordination on Map 3 a real challenge for us. It feels like we're rolling the dice every time we play it.

Speed and flipping the nodes to our control are not our strong points. These days, it's tough to solo kill a support, especially for me since I rely heavily on wind elemental attacks. The current meta makes it really hard to take down supports with a single DPS. This mismatch in our strategies and the difficulty of adjusting to each other’s pace is causing significant problems. We need to find a way to blend our aggressive and tactical approaches to make our team more cohesive and effective on Map 3. If we can achieve that, we'll have a much better chance of success.

We’re still grappling with communication issues. Personally, I'm used to following instructions from the leader, but stepping up to lead or taking initiative is a challenge for me. This lack of confidence really shows on Map 3. It feels like we’re throwing all our power into just trying to survive while being relentlessly chased by enemy DPS, especially the CC-heavy Jormund (yes, they’re prevalent now). Freezing, stuns, and stone attacks are my biggest nightmares.

Last season, I could rely on my natural resistance, boasting over 100 stun and freeze resist and 50 stone and snare resist. Before the King of Chaos update, this was usually enough to counter enemy DPS. However, now even with 200 freeze, 150 stun, and 100 stone resist, it’s still not sufficient. Investing more in resistance means sacrificing damage output, which leaves me unable to effectively deal with supports.

These issues could be resolved if our team had the coordination and skill level of a team like Thai Champ, but unfortunately, we aren’t there yet. We need to focus on improving our communication and finding a balance between defensive resilience and offensive power. Enhancing our teamwork and adapting our strategies are crucial steps we need to take. If we can sync our playstyles and support each other better, we’ll be able to overcome these challenges and become a more cohesive and effective team.

Long story short, we only managed to hold onto 300-400 points from our start in Week 3. This means we need to win 4-5 games in Week 4 to get close to the top 600. Potank has the least points, so we'll probably need an extra game to ensure he also makes it into the top 600.

Road to Week 4 Preparation, P2W Card and Gacha.

With one week left to go, we're gearing up for final adjustments in Week 4. My Thor build still feels like it’s lacking firepower, despite my efforts to maximize its potential. Thor's inherent randomness adds to the challenge, making it crucial to find ways to ensure more consistent kills or takedowns of enemies. While Stan opted for the PDI build with the Phantom Dancer job for target stripping, I've had to take a different approach.

Instead of relying on Phantom Dancer, I've focused on stacking skill damage, medium damage, and ignore defense to bridge the gap in effectiveness. Each adjustment aims to boost my output and reliability in battle.

Adding to the excitement, ROM developers dropped a bombshell with the release of the Soulblade card. This new card is being likened to some of the undead cards (whose names escape me momentarily) known for enhancing demihuman damage. The Soulblade card offers a solid 10% increase in demihuman damage. Pairing it with +15 armor can push this bonus to an impressive 25% increase against medium monsters.

For a physical DPS like myself, this enhancement is incredibly valuable. However, there’s a catch: the card is available through a box with no limit. This means you could potentially spend a significant amount of BCC without securing the card—whether you're incredibly lucky or sadly unlucky depends on the roll of the dice.

Despite the gamble, the potential boost in damage output makes chasing after the Soulblade card a tempting prospect as we head into the final stretch of our campaign.

So, I rolled and rolled, readying myself for the outcome. The Soulblade card was a must-have for me, no matter what. I believed it was the key solution for our team—if I could just hit harder, then I would hit harder. Nic was also rolling for it, and he managed to get it from the 365th box or later. Fortunately for me, I secured it at the 301st box.

All my BCC for the month went down the drain, but I finally got the card. It's undeniably a solid addition to my arsenal, but the lingering question remains: was it worth over 6000 BCC?

Despite the hefty cost, I believe the boost in damage potential will pay off in our upcoming matches. The investment, while steep, could be the edge we need to elevate our team's performance. Only time and the battles ahead will truly tell if it was worth it.

Nic Subs for Family Occassion

Real-life priorities take precedence for us, above all else. Nic let us know well in advance that he wouldn't be available to play in Week 4 due to a family commitment. He reached out to ask if it was alright with us, and we fully supported his decision, immediately starting the search for substitute pilots to ensure everyone could remain part of our journey.

Similar efforts were made for Arisa; we're actively seeking a pilot for her as well, because we're all in this together. For me, having been immersed in this game for over five years, hacking isn't my style—it's the experiences and the bonds forged along the way that hold the greatest value. The camaraderie and shared dedication among teammates make every challenge and triumph in the game meaningful.

Nic is being substituted by Uncle Alvin, a fellow Malaysian player who specializes in Jormund gameplay. I believe that, in terms of our lineup, we're at our strongest in Week 4 compared to other weeks. This isn't because it's the final week or because Nic was playing poorly. In my opinion, Nic can excel when given enough time to learn and master a job.

Every player needs time to adapt to the roles they play. Learning and studying a job thoroughly can significantly impact performance. With Uncle Alvin stepping in, who is skilled with Jormund, I'm confident that our team is well-equipped for the challenges ahead in Week 4. It's about optimizing our lineup and leveraging each player's strengths to achieve success.

Lack of Practice especially For Map 3

Being a good player with good strategies and good equipment won't work if you haven't practiced enough. We've mastered Maps 1 and 2. Map 2 is where we shine the most, and Map 1 is familiar to us. However, Map 3 is on a different level. It requires more strategy and tactical approaches, and we need to agree on who will lead and who will follow.

Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time for that. I'm dealing with difficulties with works in real live that demands all my attention. This situation has made it hard for me to practice according to our agreed schedule, and others are facing their own challenges too.

Then there's Ichwan, our newlywed, who's also prioritizing family time. All of us, including our spouses, understand that spending too much time on online games isn't ideal. Time is limited, and we all need to make the most of it.

Attica, residing in a vastly different GMT zone, must juggle her rest, work, and play time effectively. This requires her to carefully balance her daily schedule to ensure she meets all her responsibilities while also making time for leisure activities. Similarly, Henlee faces the challenge of balancing his family commitments with his personal gaming time, striving to maintain a healthy equilibrium between his home life and his hobbies.

So, this situation has consequences: we're very deficient in Map 3. On top of that, we haven't had enough time to build chemistry with Uncle Alvin. We're hoping that our strength in Maps 1 and 2 will compensate for our shortcomings in Map 3.
