Initial Impression:
Have you ever imagined what it'd be like to combine a few elements such as Gacha, Shooting, and Third Person altogether in one game? (e.g., Gacha: like Punishing: Gray Raven, Aether Gazer. Shooting: like Goddess of Victory: Nikke. The games mentioned here are all in third person.)
You must have done it at least once, and for the most part, let me assure you that, as much as the idea sounds novel, however, its execution in this game isn't all that engaging. And I'll tell you why it was an utter disappointment for me (partially because I had a little too tall of an expectation of this title seeing the trailer and all).
Let's walk you through some of the reasons.
1. Story:
In almost every game that I play, this particular point always remains one of the major factors as to why I should continue, if I feel depleted from the combat system, in which the game didn't make any significant impression. The pacing of the story felt sometimes uneven, with some sections that seemed, to me, were deliberately dragged on.
2. Repetitive Gameplay:
Combining Gacha mechanics with a shooting game while allowing multi-way movement freedom is a bold and intriguing idea. When executed to a high standard, it promises an exhilarating and dynamic experience. However, the reality here falls short.
==Mission Structure==
--Lack of Variety: Many missions follow a similar structure, involving objectives like "defeat waves of enemies," "collect specific items," or "escort NPCs." This led to a sense of déjà vu as I progressed through the game, with each mission blurring into the next.
--Predictable Objectives: The objectives in these missions often lacked innovation, making them predictable and less engaging over time. It felt like I was going through the motions rather than being challenged or surprised.
==Side Quests:
--Monotonous Tasks: Side quests tended to be more repetitive than main missions. Tasks like fetching items, defeating specific enemies, or completing timed challenges became routine and quickly lost their initial appeal.
--Minimal Story Impact: Many side quests did not significantly impact the overall story or character development, making them feel like filler content rather than meaningful additions to the narrative.
==Grinding for Resources:
--Resource Farming: To progress and upgrade equipment, I often needed to grind for specific resources. This involved repeatedly completing the same missions or challenges to gather the necessary materials.
--Time-Consuming: The repetitive nature of grinding was time-consuming and felt like a chore, detracting from the enjoyment of the game. For someone who does not particularly dislike repetitive tasks, this was mediocre.
==Enemy Variety:
--Limited Enemy Types: A limited variety of enemy types contributed to the sense of repetition. Fighting the same types of enemies with similar attack patterns became monotonous.
--Predictable Combat: When enemies lacked diversity in their behavior and appearance, combat encounters became predictable, reducing the challenge and excitement of battles.
==Environmental Reuse:
--Recycled Maps: Frequent reuse of the same maps and environments for different missions led to visual fatigue. Exploring new areas was less exciting when they looked and felt too similar to previously visited locations.
--Static Environments: Environments that did not change dynamically or offer new challenges upon revisits contributed to the overall sense of repetition.
==Limited Gameplay Mechanics:
--Stagnant Mechanics: Once I mastered the core gameplay mechanics, there was little variation or new mechanics introduced to keep the gameplay fresh. This resulted in a lack of innovation and engagement.
--Routine Combat: Combat mechanics that did not evolve or introduce new elements made battles feel routine. I found myself using the same strategies repeatedly without needing to adapt or experiment.
The idea of combining both gacha and shooting while giving players multi-way movement freedoms is appealing only when executed with the same high standard across all aspects. When the missions become monotonous and the sense of discovery fades, the same novelty quickly wears off.
3. Graphics and Visuals:
The game does feature stunning, detailed graphics that create an immersive environment. The character and enemy designs are impressive with fluid animations, making the visual experience a standout element.
4. Sound and Music:
High-quality sound effects add realism to the game, and the atmospheric music complements the game’s tone and setting. However, the voice acting can be hit or miss, with some lines feeling a bit forced.
5. Technical Performance:
The game generally performs well, but there are occasional frame rate drops during intense action sequences. Some players have reported bugs and glitches, though the developer team is responsive and regularly updates the game to fix issues and improve performance.
==Final Verdict==
"Snowbreak Contaminated Zone" does draw an enticing premise with its blend of Gacha, Shooting, and Third Person elements.
However, its repetitive gameplay and uneven story pacing and mediocre looking character with their forced voice lines hold it back from being truly engaging.
The high standard required to make a multi-element combination successful isn't consistently met here. With improvements in mission variety, side quests, and overall gameplay mechanics, it could make solid steps to meet the high expectations set by its initial impression.
Until then, it remains a mixed strange experience with flashes of brilliance overshadowed by its shortcomings.

Author likedSome characters are quite well designed (ain't a borderline rule34 bait) except their gameplay isn't but people who likes shooting may like it as for me, I don't particularly fancy the idea of gacha and shooting in the same room also the grind is pretty bad and missions are simply a roundabout-cliché .

it was cool back then it was somewhat a "looter" shooter for mobile. but it's a gacha game and gun play isn't that fun since every level us just "kill every enemy" and gets really boring.

Author likedIt probably isn't the kind of game that you would want to stick around for long time otherwise it gets staled pretty quickly.
