As someone who enjoys rhythm games but isn’t a hardcore player, I wanted to share my thoughts on 'MeloJam', a game that has truly impressed me. Here are some of the highlights that stood out:
First and foremost, the game features a vast catalogue of music, spanning a wide range of styles, including international hits (English), Thai music, KPOP, JPOP, rock, and more. One of my biggest frustrations with rhythm games is the lack of variety in music, where songs often sound similar, differing only in speed and difficulty. 'MeloJam' breaks this mold with its diverse selection, keeping the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Another aspect I love is how seamlessly character customisation is integrated into the game. There are two types of gacha: one that requires payment (or infrequently earned tickets from completing missions) and another that uses tickets earned frequently from gameplay tasks or diamonds, which can also be earned through in-game activities. The gacha rates are clearly displayed, and if you’re lucky, you might score some UR and SSR items from x10 pulls, just as I did.
Graphics quality is another area where 'MeloJam' excels. The game is optimised to run smoothly even on low-end devices, so there’s no need to worry about performance issues.
Now, let’s talk about the gameplay. 'MeloJam' offers several modes, including practice rooms (which can be made public or private for solo practice or with others), ranked matches to showcase your rhythm skills against other players, stages that function as a story mode with increasing difficulty, and the performance center. While I haven’t tried the performance center yet, from what I’ve gathered, it allows you to form a band with other players to achieve a collective high score in seasonal competitions.
A unique feature of 'MeloJam' is the variety of instruments and rhythm game styles available. For instance, playing a song on the guitar resembles the popular rhythm game 'OSU!', while playing on the keyboard mimics the note-tracking style of 'Guitar Hero'. Each instrument has its own ranked game mode, so you can focus on your preferred instrument, whether it’s the keyboard or drums.
The only downside is that the game is currently in CBT (Closed Beta/Alpha Testing) in Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. However, if you’re a rhythm game enthusiast, I can share how to download the game even if you’re outside the beta testing regions if you message me using my discord ID 'toonafish.' Or you can just use a VPN, it's probably easier and safer for your device 🤷♀️😂.
just quick side note: I took these screenshot on low graphics so it would upload faster. actual game graphics go from low-extreme. and I usually play on extreme
