Starting a YouTube channel is an exciting journey, but it can also be overwhelming. After years of experience, I've gathered some tips that can help you reach your final goal. Let's dive into the top 10 things I've learned along the way:
#### 1. Forget About the Numbers at the Beginning
Subscriber count, watch hours, live viewers—they only add pressure. Focus instead on finding the direction you want your channel to take and creating content you're comfortable with. Improve your editing skills, storytelling, and thumbnails. Spend time researching and gaining as much knowledge as you can.
#### 2. Thumbnails Are Super Important
Thumbnails are the first thing viewers see, so make them count. Don’t be lazy—avoid just blurring a picture of gameplay with a title slapped on. There are many editing programs available, both free and paid, for PC and mobile devices. Experiment with different ones, find what works for you, and practice. YouTube is full of tutorials that can help you improve your thumbnail editing skills—watch them!
#### 3. The First 15 Seconds Are Crucial
The first 15 seconds of a video are the most important. Make them as engaging as possible. A good, explosive intro can encourage viewers to watch the entire video. For instance, if you have an amazing PUBG gameplay video, start with the most intense fight in that match for the first 10-15 seconds, then show the full gameplay.
#### 4. Video Editing Is Key
Like thumbnails, video editing is crucial. Don’t just upload gameplay with a soundtrack in the background. Learn how to add effects, filters, transitions, and other elements to make your video more engaging. For PC users, I recommend Da Vinci Resolve—the best free program available. For $0, you’ll get film production software capable of producing high-quality content.
#### 5. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
When starting, avoid comparing yourself to content creators with thousands of subscribers. Your videos might not be great at first, but remember that those big channels started just like you—by making mistakes, practicing, and improving. Many of them have entire teams behind them, so focus on your own path. Don’t get discouraged; you’ll be like them one day—just believe in it.
#### 6. Experiment with Different Types of Content
If you’re a gamer, don’t be afraid to experiment. Some create various types of content, while others focus on specific genres like gameplay videos, tips and tricks, game reviews, meme videos, or commentary. For example, when I was making Apex videos, I loved creating tips and tricks content. It was challenging but yielded the best results. The key is to experiment and find what works best for you.
#### 7. More Uploads Don’t Always Mean More Subscribers
This is a common misconception. Initially, I thought uploading daily or every other day would lead to more subscribers, but it only put insane pressure on me, and I burned out quickly. Later, I focused on improving my thumbnails, editing, etc., and began uploading weekly. The results were fantastic, with less pressure, and I enjoyed my YouTube experience much more. If you can upload daily or every other day without burning out or sacrificing content quality, go for it. But I recommend focusing on quality over quantity.
#### 8. Connect Your YouTube Channel to Social Media
When starting a YouTube channel, I suggest connecting it to at least one social media account, whether it’s X, Instagram, Facebook, or Discord. Use these platforms to meet new followers, promote your content, interact with your audience, and connect with other content creators. If managing multiple accounts is overwhelming at the beginning, start with one, like an X account, and expand to others later.
#### 9. Live Streaming Is Crucial
Start live streaming as soon as possible, even if nobody is watching. Live streaming is a fantastic way to connect with your audience and build confidence. It’s better to start live streaming with a few viewers early on than to start later when your channel has grown and you have 100 people watching—it can be extremely intimidating. So don’t be afraid—click that live button.
#### 10. Titles and Thumbnails Are Key to Clicks
Titles, along with thumbnails, determine if a viewer will click on your video. These are the two most important things to focus on! Avoid generic titles like “CODM 30 kills gameplay.” Instead, try something like “Wiping out entire lobbies in CODM—Insane 30 kills gameplay 🔥” (just an example). Do your research, check other creators' titles, see what works, and get some ideas. But please, DO NOT use clickbait titles. Don’t say “30 kills gameplay” if there aren’t 30 kills in the video. Do this once or twice, and viewers will never trust your content again—they’ll know you’re clickbaiting, and that’s a no-go.

By following these tips, you'll be on your way to building a successful YouTube channel. Remember, it’s a journey, and every step you take brings you closer to your goal. Good luck!
