Ocean Keeper: Dome Survival is an anticipated "roguelike survival game" in which you play as a lone member of the Space Pirate Team and explore the unknown depths of an underwater universe. With just your trusty Mech and Digger on your side, you'll have to explore deep caverns to acquire resources to upgrade your gear and improve your chances of survival against alien adversaries.
Ocean Keeper is the most recent addition to RetroStyle Games' extensive game portfolio, which includes titles like Last Pirate: Survival Island, Spirit Run, and many more.
Gameplay
Ocean Keeper makes an excellent job of portraying an open, undersea environment that seems both inviting and menacing. The idea of deep-sea exploration and ongoing item enhancement reminded me of Unknown Worlds Entertainment's Subnautica.
The whole gameplay experience was enjoyable and did not seem repetitive, even after several sessions. The entire landscape varied every time I started a new session, which undoubtedly helped to keep the game feeling fresh. I needed to swiftly detect bottlenecks, open spots, and caverns in order to prepare for approaching waves.
Furthermore, the numerous Guns and Skills available, as well as the several Upgrade pathways, allow you to experiment with alternative configurations, perhaps improving your odds of survival. As a lover of strategy games, I appreciated the RTS components.
Ocean Keeper incorporates haptics into the gameplay experience. I felt it when I linked stuff to myself during the caving phase, and it's an excellent immersive element. With that in mind, I believe it might be taken one step further. Haptics seems like a wonderful effect to have anytime the cave shakes when you run out of time before a wave starts or when an attacker damages your Mech.
Now, there are a few other modifications to the game that I believe will improve its realism. For starters, it would be wonderful to see a gravity impact when players connect themselves to several things during the caving phase. As it is, the more objects you carry, the slower your movement speed becomes, yet these items do not weigh you down when stationary. On that topic, it would be wonderful to have the option of selecting which object to drop.
It swiftly becomes repetitive. I maxed everything in a few hrs of game play. all maps are a diamond pattern with 4 square untouchable in the center, with little variation.
Encourages one to spend $2.99 for full game. Promptly starts asking one to watch ads for beginning perks. 😵💫
Hope they add a lot more than this cause it's got potential, even with minimal effort. It is fun! It's a sweet little game that I hope the devs decide to toy with a bit. I was happy to spend $2.99 and I really hope to buy some ad-ons as well as seeing more content from what I already bought.
