A JRPG Prequel To The Messenger - Sea Of Stars Quick Review
IS SEA OF STARS A SHOWSTOPPER?
Hey there, if you're a fan of Indie Dev Sabotage Studio, you may already be aware of their recently released JRPG, Sea Of Stars . Given that I adored their prior title 'The Messenger', and that this one exists in the same universe it established, albeit further back in the past - you can imagine how excited I was to delve into this game, to see if it would wind up being a stealth prequel, or simply an expansion of everything they've established so far. What I can say about my experience so far, is the simple fact that it's mechanically a lot of fun. Even early on in my experience, there's been a number of systems to adjust to which keep the combat feeling involved- with timed hits like you might find in Super Mario RPG, some surprisingly flexible exploration, and a map design that's so porous, and friendly to backtracking- it feels like the developer took notes from Metroidvanias. It's definitely neat, and has me looking forward to what else there is to come.
