Despite being made by the same team that created the beloved Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2, players were very lukewarm on last year's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The mixed reviews on Steam pointed to tons of bugs, a lack of content, and unrewarding progression as major problems contributing to the lack of excitement.
Well, developer Fatshark has been working away at Darktide for a year now, improving on those issues with patches adding new content, balancing classes and abilities, and squashing legions of bugs. That all culminates in the just-launched Patch 13, which completely overhauls how classes and leveling work in the game.
The short version: Each of Darktide's four classes now has a full skill tree that they can put a point into every time they level up. The skill trees are much more varied and complex than the limited progression choices available previously, and players will generally have a lot more to experiment with. You can see some examples of the new abilities available in the trailer above, but TapTap editor Ian Boudreau was also able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the revamped class system. Take a look at his impressions below:

Patch 13 has more than just the class overhaul too! The full patch notes are available on the Fatshark forums, and there's a TON here, including huge balance changes, bug fixes, some small quality-of-life improvements, and even new cinematics.
Alongside the launch of Patch 13 on PC, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is also launching tomorrow for Xbox Series X and S, and it will even be part of the Xbox Game Pass. Hopefully that will introduce even more new players to the game now that it's in a better spot than ever before.

Massive class overhaul and more | Impressions - Warhammer 40K: Darktide Patch 13
Warhammer 40K: Darktide wasn’t universally praised at launch, mainly due to its optimization and repetitive nature. However, Patch #13 brings about the much-anticipated "Class Overhaul", which brings more engaging content into the game. This update is a game-changer, not just for existing players but also as a first impression for newcomers. Goodbye Feats, Hello Talent Trees: The most significant change in Patch #13 is the replacement of the Feats system with Talent Trees. Each character class now has its Talent Tree, and as you level up, you earn Talent Points. You can allocate these points to unlock and enhance abilities and passives within your Talent Tree. This is similar to system seen in RPG games such as Diablo.

A return to the underbellies of Warhammer 40K, is it worth it? | Review - Darktide Patch 13
Warhammer 40K: Darktide has now been released on Xbox, accompanied by a plethora of updates with Patch #13 that transforms it into what feels like an entirely new game. Xbox players who are joining the fray later shouldn't feel left behind or delayed, for lack of a better word. In fact, you can say that its 10 months on PC was just the early access period, so yeah, thanks PC beta testers. When I reviewed
