Hey everyone! I’m back with another game review, and this time, we’re checking out Katana Zero—the stylish, fast-paced action game that has finally arrived on Netflix Games.
If you’ve never played this game before, don’t worry! By the end of this review, you’ll know whether it’s worth downloading or if it’s just another indie title lost in the crowd.
Let’s get started!
Overview
Katana Zero is a neo-noir action platformer developed by Askiisoft. The game was originally released in 2019, but now it’s available on Netflix Games, meaning you can play it on mobile for free—as long as you have a Netflix subscription.
You play as Zero, a katana-wielding assassin with the ability to manipulate time. The story is filled with mystery, psychological twists, and insane action, making it more than just a simple hack-and-slash game.
Gameplay Mechanics
The game is all about fast-paced combat and time-based strategy. Every move you make matters—you can’t just button-mash your way through. Here’s what makes the gameplay special:
Key Features
✅ One-hit kills – Both you and enemies die in a single hit, making every fight intense.
✅ Time-slowing ability – You can slow down time to dodge bullets and plan your attacks.
✅ Stealth & strategy – Some levels require careful movement rather than just charging in.
✅ Instant retries – If you die, you instantly restart the level, keeping the action smooth.
✅ After Completing every level you see a Full level revind in black and white colours.
Each level feels like a puzzle—you have to figure out the best way to clear enemies without getting hit once. It’s brutal, stylish, and insanely fun.
Controls
Since the game was originally designed for PC and consoles, the transition to mobile might feel different. Luckily, the touch controls work surprisingly well.
✅ Responsive movement
✅ Smooth attack and dodge mechanics
✅ Time-slowing ability is easy to trigger
However, if you’re not a fan of touch controls, I highly recommend using a controller for the best experience, i am using touch controls if you ask me.
Graphics and Sound
The game has a beautiful pixel-art cyberpunk aesthetic with flashy animations and detailed environments. It feels like playing an interactive neon-drenched anime.
And the soundtrack? Absolute fire. The synthwave-style music perfectly matches the game’s fast-paced action and dark story. The sound effects also make every slash and explosion feel impactful.
This one of the game's where you just enjoy something.
Story and Characters
I won’t spoil anything, but if you love mind-bending stories, Katana Zero will keep you hooked.
The game throws you into a mysterious world filled with assassins, conspiracies, and psychological twists. As you progress, you’ll uncover more about Zero’s past and the truth behind his abilities.
It’s not just about action—the story is deep, emotional, and unpredictable. And the dialogue choices you make actually affect the game, adding replay value.
