The sequel to one of the most brutal, disgusting Metroidvanias ever is about to launch

If you played the original Blasphemous anytime since it came out in 2019, then you know it was a disturbingly bloody little game that proved that pixel-art graphics can still bring the gore and grossness. And if you played it, you'll also know that on top of being filled with messed up enemies and cutscenes, it was also an extremely good Metroidvania. But whether you played the first game or not, you should take note of the impending release of

[SPOILERS] BŌ THE HOLLOW KNIGHT & ORI LOVE CHILD

While it may have been weak and lacking in some areas. It was definitely something that held me over until more games are released. In essence, the game incorporates many components from both games, to the point that they leave a lot to be desired; nonetheless, it remains fascinating and enjoyable. It's a roguelite, a Metroidvania, and a base-builder! This adorable indie game does it all

SHOULD I PLAY NEVER GRAVE: THE WITCH AND THE CURSE? This is a demo you should definitely check out. Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse is a 2D action game that combines the best elements of some of my favorite genres. It’s an exploration-heavy Metroidvania with awesome traversal mechanics, but it’s also a roguelite with tons of power-ups to collect. It even has light base-building mechanics, so I always had lots of projects to work on between runs. I had a blast with the demo, and I can’t wait to play the full game.

ANIMAL WELL - A SURREAL & COMPACT PLATFORMER

VideoGameDunky is someone I can truly relate to; he began his career as a League of Legends content creator and streamer before transitioning to a satirical approach to video game reviews, to the point where half of the community around him felt serious and the other half felt like memes, making it difficult to differentiate from whether his reviews were genuine or just him being overly silly with jokes and humor.

Chronicles of 2 Heroes: Amaterasu's Wrath (First Impressions)

Developer: Infinity Experience Publisher: Catness Game Studios Released: May 26th, 2023 Price: $20 USD When you pick up a Metroidvania, you expect it to follow the genre's basic rules. Platforming, non-linear gameplay, and blocked progression owing to a lack of needed upgrades to traverse certain areas, meaning there should be enough backtracking and other side things to do than going from point (a) to (b).

This stylish platformer looks different from any other Metroidvania we've seen before

From Hollow Knight to Blasphemous 2 to, well, most of the Metroid and Castlevania games of the last twenty years, we've played and adored Metroidvanias for a long time now. But for as many of these adventure/exploration-heavy platformers as we've played, we've never seen one that looks quite like Worldless. This upcoming Metroidvania from Spanish game developer Noname Studios uses stark colors and an abstract art style to really stand out from the pack. That's not the only way that it's different, though. In addition to the usual exploration and ability unlocking of this style of game, it uses a clever combat system that mixes turn-based and real-time action.

'Crypt of the NecroDancer' review

I love this game so much I thought about changing the review into something more legible. 1-4 alpha is my favorite track but tbh the whole soundtrack slaps especially with the shopkeepers. Ps Nintendo has a collab with Zelda Cadence of Hyrule.

A solid Metroidvania that expands the League of Legends universe in fun ways - Convergence Quick

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Play it! As the fourth game in the A League of Legends Story series of spin-offs, Convergence continues the trend of extremely polished single-player games that greatly build up the characters and lore of Riot’s eternally popular League of Legends. This time the genre being experimented with is Metroidvania, and the star of the show is Ekko, League’s resident genius inventor-slash-time traveler. As it turns out, these are also the perfect focuses to showcase the industrial city of Zaun, a steampunk dystopia that’s one of the most fascinating locales in

Lovecraft plus Metroidvania should be a killer combo, but this game has some big problems

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Skip it unless you’re a superfan of anything inspired by H.P. Lovecraft or you’re dying for a Metroidvania. The Last Case of Benedict Fox follows a demon-possessed detective who has the ability to jump into the memories of the dead. Using these powers, he’s attempting to find out the dark truth behind what happened to his father, a man heavily involved in occult rituals. It’s a great setup, but the experience is quickly dragged down by clunky controls and frustrating level design.

SHOULD I PLAY ULTROS? Definitely play it, especially if you like a good adventure with a unique look. Ultros dives into a vast alien world that’s equally strange and enchanting. I got to explore vibrant caverns and alleyways, fight nasty beasts and tendril-flinging monsters, and uncover mysteries about an ancient, demonic being entrapped inside this realm. It’s a singularly great title and my favorite Metroidvania I’ve ever played.

Worldless offers a mysterious and beautiful world to explore - it’s a shame about the combat

SHOULD I PLAY WORLDLESS? Give this one a miss. Worldless has some ideas that are neat in theory, but frequently end up feeling like they were implemented by someone unfamiliar with the concept of video games. Particularly aggravating is the combat, which stops the game’s free exploration for a stodgy back and forth turn-based battle system. Combine that with frustrating traversal puzzles in which errors drop you back to the beginning, and this beautiful abstract trip turns into a slog that just isn’t worth making. For a better version of this experience, try
